Young Diversity Ambassadors in Bosnia and Herzegovina This summer Young Diversity Ambassadors program participants visited Bosnia and Herzegovina to learn from the country’s experience of Post-War Rebuilding. What they have seen and heard, what they have eaten and understood – in this text. Growing up After the war, the country will be reconstructed. There will be lots of construction work. More and more rehabilitation programs both for soldiers and for civilians will work. The economy will come back to its normal functioning. There will be new cinema, new literature, and new art projects that will rethink and reflect the war experience. There is an essential inaccuracy in these words. The country cannot be reconstructed by itself, and buildings will not be built by themselves, the rehabilitation programs won’t appear out of the blue. It doesn’t happen b... Spaces to study, play, and meet friends. These spaces have become places of strength that gather active people around them, from the smallest to the eldest. There children and youth can learn how to implement their ideas and get that precious experience they can obtain only when people come together for an idea and work together. And in the end, you see it’s worth it. The youth initiatives workshop “Act and Change” was founded by STAN NGO in partnership and with the financial support of the Czech humanitarian organization People in Need Ukraine. What Is Ours And What Was Imposed on Us At the decisive stage of the Young Ambassadors Program, its participants implemented their initiatives in the framework of several defined topics. We’ve already written about them in a previous article. Decolonization and thinking of memory for the future were the topics young people liked the most. This is not a surprise since Ukraine now is fighting for its independence and firmly as never before saying goodbye to its colonial heritage. It is rethinking its past, shaping new visions of the future. The way we will be rebuilding our country after the victory depends on these thoughts. The reference points we would have and the values we would rely on. And the country we will finally live in. From the foundations Tomorrow’s Ukraine is neither a manna from heaven nor a birthday gift from an auntie. I... CFSs are spaces where children can study and enjoy spending time. The first months were tough. While the renovation works in coming child-friendly spaces were ongoing, facilitators and psychologists worked with kids in the alternative spaces. Together with parents and kids, they created a warm and safe environment. Often, when Russia was attacking the Ukrainian energy infrastructure, CFSs worked without electricity and heating. In spring, the work of CFSs has normalized. Children are spending time now in the newly renovated buildings, they use laptops and projectors and ...
