Історія шквальних перевірок АЗС розпочалася ще в квітні 2021 р., коли український уряд активізував боротьбу з нелегальним ринком. Як повідомляв раніше НафтоРинок, на виконання доручення прем’єр-міністра України до боротьби з нелегалами долучилися регіональні представництва ДФС, ДСНС та інші. Наприкінці року для досягнення святої мети виявити та знешкодити порушників пристала й поліція. Проте, як повелося, під час війни із «сірими» під приціл перевіряльників потрапили всі підряд, у тому числі й ті, хто замовляв спецоперації в регіонах.
