Together with the World Intellectual Property Organization, the IP Academy department of the State Enterprise “Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute” (Ukrpatent) regularly coordinates activities and support, preparing joint events and working on further steps to develop the IP Academy in Ukraine, according to the head of the department Vitalii Sarkisyan. Moreover, the department is coordinating the possibility of translating WIPO distance learning courses into Ukrainian for our citizens.

In cooperation with the European Patent Office and the European Patent Academy, the department is working together to support and raise awareness of representatives of educational institutions, inventors, SMEs, professionals, and other representatives of the field of IP.

IP Academy communicates with schools and higher educational institutions in order to coordinate joint educational activities, online lessons, training, lectures.

The department also plans and coordinates with international partners the events for International Intellectual Property Day, which will take place on April 26, 2022.

All employees of the department are safe, constantly in touch and together with international partners are actively working on the development of IP sphere in Ukraine.

Ukrpatent continues to receive letters of support from patent offices and organizations in the field of IP.

The department of examination of applications for inventions, utility models, and layout designs of the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Institute of Intellectual Property" (Ukrpatent), as well as the entire staff of Ukrpatent, continues to work even when some employees lost their homes or were forced to leave.

According to Serhii Torianik, director of the department, in the period from February 24 to March 22, 2022, 105 national applications for inventions and 13 national applications for utility models were filed. As the Receiving Office for the international applications under the PCT Agreement, Ukrpatent also received 2 international applications by e-mail. In addition, during this period, Ukrpatent as the International Searching Authority received 2 copies of international search applications.

The department notes that a significant number of applications received by Ukrpatent by February 24 are pending. The examination works continuously, sending conclusions to the applicants, performing a significant amount of work, providing professional assistance to colleagues in case of urgent need and unforeseen circumstances. The work of the department is constantly supervised by the top management.

Quality control of works is carried out by the quality control department of the examination in accordance with the automated distribution. One hundred percent verification is applied to negative decisions. In addition, the experts of the examination quality control department fully consult and cooperate with experts on current complex issues.

Applicants and their representatives can be sure that the department of examination of applications for inventions, utility models, and layout designs of Ukrpatent performs its work qualitatively and at a high professional level.

The third batch of humanitarian aid to Ukraine from the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland has arrived recently at the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute" (Ukrpatent).

In addition to the support provided directly to Ukrpatent, the Polish Patent Office is actively involved in providing financial and humanitarian assistance to Ukraine.

A letter was sent to the Patent Office of the Republic of Poland in the name of President Edyta Demby-Siwek from Ukrpatent Director General Andrew Kudin, in which he expresses deep gratitude for the significant efforts of the fraternal office in organizing and providing assistance, supporting the state system of legal protection of IP in Ukraine, supporting Ukrainian applicants and right holders within the jurisdiction of the office, as well as providing local support for Ukrpatent specialists working remotely in Poland.

Ukrpatent warmly thanks the Polish Patent Office for supporting the IP sphere and the people of Ukraine. 

On March 22nd, 2022 the European Patent Organisation’s Administrative Council held a minute of silence in solidarity with Ukraine and as a mark of respect for victims of the Russian military aggression.

Ukrpatent, on behalf of the entire IP community of Ukraine, expresses sincere gratitude to the EPOrg for its support.

During the first weeks of March, the State Enterprise "Ukrainian Intellectual Property Institute" (Ukrpatent) received more than 150 applications for trademarks. The department for examination of applications for trademarks, industrial designs and geographical Indications of Ukrpatent notes that applicants are gradually resuming activity.

According to the director of the department Oleksii Tkachuk, all employees have left especially dangerous territories and are constantly in touch. The division works remotely almost seven days a week, ensuring the continuity of the examination of applications. All electronic document exchange systems work properly.

The Department expresses special thanks to the IT division and the cybersecurity division, which carried out a number of measures to additionally protect Ukrpatent's information systems from any external influence, including high-power electromagnetic pulses. Significant efforts of Ukrpatent specialists today are aimed at data protection and functioning of electronic services for applicants.
