We are very happy to announce that all 83 artists who sent us their works during the lockdown will be part of this strange show. Of course, precautions related to COVID-19 apply. ПАУЗА. СТОП Alina Kopytsa PLAY. PAUSE. STOP 15.07—19.08.2020 [ENG below] У роки мого юнацтва у Швейцарії мати привчила мене відчувати провину і сором за свою сексуальність. Для неї секс був монстром, якого треба тримати на ціпку. У Швейцарії я також зустрів Аліну Копицю, на борту рейсу LX 2291 Цюрих—Київ. Аліна — українська художниця, чиї роботи оспівують свободу та трансформацію, а художня практика нині розвивається в країні кам’яних гір та незламних правил. Хоча це було наше перше знайомство, лише побачивши роботи Аліни, я миттєво зрозумів, що хочу показати їх у The Naked Room. Мистецтво Аліни переносять нас у світ абсолютної розкутості, секс-позитивності та грайливості. Тут немає місця для сорому, докору або гендерних обмежень. Аліна не провокує, не створює навмисну напругу — вона просто ділиться власними спостереженнями у спосіб, який викликає довіру та інтригує. І запрошує нас трохи пограти. Повна близькість, нічого не приховано. Але це не має пробуджувати у глядачів збентеження, сором або відчуття вуаєризму. Мистецтво Аліни, натомість, сповнене теплом, природністю та прийняттям. Художниця створила власну версію алфавіту “для дорослих” у формі відео. Улюблені спогади про чуттєві пригоди зі своїм партнером, художником Коко Шварцем вона втілює у тендітних мереживних серветках. Але Аліна сміливо ділиться з нами також і деякими з найболючіших моментів її життя. Силіконовий стілець в центрі виставки передає почуття художниці в момент небажаного нею сексу. Аліна не мрійниця, її роботи виростають із власного досвіду: автентичні в них не лише історії, але і матеріали: спідня білизна подружки колишнього чоловіка, простирадла секс-працівниць, костюм невідомого чоловіка, що вона його знайшла на вулиці в Цюриху, фрагменти власного одягу. Аліна однаково вільно розпускає шви вживаного текстилю, аби дати йому нове життя, і розриває кордони, обмеження й табу завдяки виразності кольору, ниток, силікону, акварелі, вовни та бавовни. Метаморфози — одержимість Аліни. Вона перевтілює все, що потрапляє до її рук. Старі матерії стають тканими оповіданнями, старий стілець — емоцією в гумі, а використані простирадла — величезними вишитими коміксами. Художниця трансформує речі, гендер та себе саму — і цим спонукає нас подолати бар’єри та зрозуміти: чого я хочу? Ким я бажаю бути? Сталим зостається лише принцип: “Грай. Почекай. Зупинись”. АЛІНА КОПИЦЯ народилася в сім’ї моряка підводного човна і виросла в оточенні тканин, стрічок, ґудзиків та швейних машин своєї матері в смт Поліське на Київщині. Кілька поколінь її родини були пов’язані з текстильною галуззю. Аліна трансформувала цю сімейну традицію у власний спосіб. Аліна здобула диплом на кафедрі графіки в НТУУ “КПІ” у 2006 році. У 2017 р. вона продовжила навчання в ZHdK (Університет мистецтв у Цюриху, Швейцарія), який закінчила цього року. Аліна — номінантка премій MUHi (2012) та PinchukArtCentre (2013). Живе та працює в Цюриху. Вхід вільний. Деякі роботи містять відверті візуальні зображення — радимо батькам пояснити дітям їхнє значення у комфортній для вас манері. STOP 15.07—19.08.2020 While growing up in Switzerland, my mother taught me to feel guilt and shame about my sexuality. For her, sex was a monster, to kept locked away. In Switzerland I also met Alina Kopytsa, inside LX 2291, waiting for our take off to fly from Zurich to Kyiv. A Ukrainian artist who celebrates freedom and transformation in her work, developing her practice in a country of rocky mountains and ancient rules. I never met her before, but after she shared her works with me on this trip, I wanted to make her show at THE NAKED ROOM. In Alina’s oeuvre, we find ourselves in a world of absolute freedom, sex-positivity and playfulness. We are welcomed by the absence of shame, guilt and gender-restrictions. Alina is not using a provocative, tense voice, but shares her observations, in a self-evident, trustful and intriguing way. She is inviting us to join the games. Pure intimacy, without any privacy. But it does not make the observer feel embarrassed, shy or voyeuristic. It is rather warm, natural and embracing. She is sharing her very own adult version of the alphabet in the form of a video, and turns her favourite memories of kinky adventures with her partner, the artist Coco Schwarz, into delicate lace doilies. But she does not shy away to also share some of the most painful moments of her life with us, such as the silicon chair, in the center of this exhibition, introducing how she felt when she was used for sex she did not want. Alina is not a dreamer, her work is based on real experiences. So authentic, that not only her stories are real, but also the material she is working with: The underwear of her ex-husband’s girlfriend, bedsheets of sex-workers, the suit of an unknown men she found on the streets in in Zurich or pieces of her own private clothing. Just like Alina is opening seams of used textiles, to transform them into new life, she is opening all borders, restrictions and taboos, by cotton, colors, threads, sometimes silicon, aquarelle and wool. Metamorphosis is Alina’s obsession, and so she transforms whatever she can get her hands on. Starting with the fabrics of her mother, transforming them textile-stories, an old chair into a silicon emotion or used bed sheets into oversized embroidered cartoons. By transforming materials, genders and herself, she is encouraging us to let go of all restrictions holding us back: What do I desire? Who would you like to be? But always with consent: PLAY. PAUSE. STOP. exhibition ALINA KOPYTSA was born as the daughter of a submarine sailor and grew up surrounded by the textiles, ribbons, buttons and the sewing machines of her mother, in Poliske, north of Kyiv. Her family was working in the textile industry for generations, and so it was natural that Alina transformed this family-tradition in her very own way. Alina graduated 2006 from the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute, the Faculty of Graphic Arts. 2017 she continued her studies at the ZHdK, the University of Arts in Zurich, Switzerland, where she is graduating this year. She was a nominee of MUHi (2012) Award and PinchukArtCentre Prize (2013). Lives and works in Zürich, Switzerland. Admission free. Geologisch ist eine “Einsturzsenke” definiert als ein Senkloch, das aus dem lokalen Zusammenbruch einer Höhle resultiert, die durch Lösung und Erosion vergrößert wurde. Sowohl natürliche als auch künstliche Prozesse können die Ursache sein. Ein Zusammenbruch deutet jedoch auf eine parallele Realität hin, die für unsere Handlungen empfindlich ist oder von ihnen abhängt. Die physische Dynamik und räumliche Konstellation einer Einsturzsenke kann mehrere Bedeutungen annehmen: Deponie, dunkle Seite, Tor zu einer anderen Sphäre, Virtualität, Quelle der Kritik, etc. Vernissage: 12. Geologically a “collapse sink” is defined as a sink hole resulting from local collapse of a cavern that has been enlarged by solution and erosion. Both natural or artificial processes can be the cause. A collapse however points to a parallel reality sensitive to, or depending on, our actions.
