Results of the Radiation Safety Training for specialists from the USA
The Advanced Radiation Safety Training Course for specialists from the United States of America was carried out last week within the Chornobyl NPP site and the Exclusion Zone. During five days, ten U.S. specialists were able to work shoulder to shoulder with the ChNPP staff and to use radiation safety knowledge and skills in real field conditions.
The training was organized by the ChNPP Radiation Safety Shop, Clean Futures Fund (USA) and Technical Resources Group (USA).
Oleksandr Novikov, ChNPP Deputy Technical Director for Safety, comments this event: “The Chornobyl site has a unique opportunity to demonstrate a wide range of radiation in different locations with various levels of activity. All this is compact, so there is no need in long and difficult movements. This allows the training participants receiving unrivalled experience at unique facilities.”
Mr. Novikov emphasized that the opportunity to share experience of work in such conditions triggered already the second similar training. And each time, along with receiving specific professional skills, we observe a very intense wave of emotions, when foreign specialists are getting on to the fact that it is not easy to maintain the Power Units in safe conditions and to decommission the Chornobyl NPP.
