Home [#home] Project Resources Tutorials News Schedule Contact Us General information Project number: 564689-EPP-1-2015-1-UAEPPJMO-MODULE Project title: European Union Leadership in Climate Change Mitigation Module leader: Volodymyr Shatokha, Dr. Prof. (CV) Host institution: National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine (NMetAU) EUClim was funded under Erasmus+ Programme (Jean Monnet Modules) and lasted from September 2015 through August 2018 The deliverables and activities are sustained and teaching of the module is being continued beyond the project lifetime- please consult the News page Project Why: Knowledge of EU policies and tools in relationship to climate change mitigation is important for Ukraine to modernise socio-economic model and to withstand low-carbon economy challenges. Teaching of the module is scheduled for June) From March 16th 2020 owing to COVID-19 teaching goes on in a distance learning format 23.05.2019 — one more group of students was awarded with Certificates of attendance of the Module «The EU leadership in climate change mitigation» 12-13.04.2019 — Prof Shatokha attended the Historical and Technological Dialogue conference «Coastal Steelworks — Aspects and Development» held in Wijk aan Zee (The Netherlands) in the frames of the events following Tata Steel IJmuiden (former Hoogovens) centenary celebration. The history and development of steelworks in Mariupol at the Sea of Azov from inception in 1896 to current times have been presented . 25-29.03.2019 — a module «EU policy and instruments in the field of climate & energy» (adjusted to 36 contact hours) was delivered to the audience of persons retired from the Ukrainian Army and their family members as a part of professional retraining course «Energy management» in a frames of Norway-Ukraine collaboration 03.2019 — paper «Ukraine’s commitments under Association Agreement: challenges and opportunities for the steel industry» is published in Matériaux & Techniques 107, 108 (2019) https://doi.org/10.1051/mattech/2018044 01.2019 — Student Anastasiya Liapchenko successfully defended Master thesis «Estimation of potential to reduce GHG emissions of Ukrainian steelworks through deployment of innovative ironmaking technologies», supervised by Prof. Shatokha 07.2018 — Paper «Chasing shadows: technology and socioeconomic barriers versus climate targets for iron and steel industry» is published in Archives of Materials Science and Engineering; Issue: 2018; 1 (92) : 33-40; DOI: 10.5604/01.3001.0012.5510 10-12.06.2018 — Prof Shatokha took part in the 3rd International Conference «Advances in Metallurgical Processes and Materials» in Lviv (Ukraine) with presentation Chasing shadows: technology and socioeconomic barriers versus climate targets for iron and steel industry 08.06.2018: two groups — Ukrainian and International students — got certificates of attendance of «The EU leadership in climate change mitigation» course. Now this course is part of NMetAU official curriculum, delivered in Ukrainian and English versions under two study programmes. 22-23.05.2018 — Prof Shatokha took part in the 12th Society and Materials International Conference (SAM 12) in Metz, France with presentation « Ukraine’s commitments under Association Agreement: challenges and opportunities for steel industry » 23.03.2018 — Prof Shatokha was awarded with a certificate of gratitude for development of the scientific potential of the youth and assistance for preparation of the National competition of students’ works «Current aspects of collaboration with European Union». At this competition NMAU Master student Ms. Anastasiya Liapchenko obtained 3rd prize for her work «Current tasks of climate change mitigation in the context of implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement» (supervised by Prof. Shatokha) 20.03.2018 — Prof Shatokha delivered an invited lecture « Modernization scenarios for iron and steel industry towards meeting the climate change mitigation target » for the 175th meeting of the Iron and Steel Institute of Japan held in Chiba, Japan. ISBN 978-966-921-149-1 (for e-version — please consult «Resources» page, section Our publications ) 10.10.2017 — a lecture «Teaching the EU climate and energy policy in the context of introduction the European Studies to engineering education» was presented at the XVIII International Conference «Thermal technique, power engineering and ecology in metallurgy» at the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine, Dnipro 02-03.10.2017 — project has been presented at the International metallurgical conference «Science and Innovations» in Kyiv theses of presentation (in Ukrainian) available here 07-08.09.2017 — results of the studies on the effect of the EU climate and industrial policies on the performance of iron and steel sector in the countries of Central East Europe have been presented at the 5th International Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Rome, Italy 06.06.2017 — The group of Master students from the Ecology programme of the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine successfully passed the «EU Leadership in Climate Change Mitigation» Jean Monnet Module and awarded with certificates. 10-24.05.2017 — in a synergy with Erasmus+ Mobility project between the National Metallurgical Academy of Ukraine and Technical University «Bergakademie Freiberg» the materials of the module have been presented in the frames of the course « Climate change mitigation agenda and innovative iron- and steelmaking » delivered by the module leader Prof. V.Shatokha 16-17.09.2016 — Project leader Prof. Shatokha took part in the 4th International Conference on Sustainable Development, held in Rome, Italy , presenting research where the potential of EU-funded initiatives to reach sectorial climate change mitigation targets has been analysed 19-21.06.2016 — Project leader Prof. V.Shatokha took part in the Jean Monnet Seminar «EU a la carte?», held in Malmo, Sweden (working group «Energy Union») 06.04.2016 — The project and our research on sustainability have been presented in Dalian University of Technology, China.
