If SMS-messages with a confirmation code for payment transactions are received on your phone number, fraudsters can write off funds from your account.

Once your phone number has stopped working:

  • immediately contact the bank to block the account
  • then to the mobile operator to clarify further actions

Are you called and asked about personal information or card details? Continuing the conversation is dangerous for your money! 

Fraudsters are able to use the phone, Internet, ATMs or mailing address.

Thieves are well aware of human psychology and will speculate on topics such as:

 
    Bullying (card blocked or stolen, “broken” account or technical failure/connection of a new service)
    Pressure and imposition (requesting details; numbers from the incoming SMS; forcing the victim to use the terminal or ATM.)
    Providing quick benefits (winning the lottery, transferring a pension, etc.) 
    Assistance on behalf: of a bank employee, assistance in unblocking the card, connecting Internet-banking. Requesting the data from the SMS, or assures that the amount received from a legal entity or with the incorrect purpose of payment.)

In the future, the thief will steal a card from your bag or pocket. This simple rule will help to avoid reading the code through the camera installed by a fraudster.
    Check out the keyboard and card reader. The keyboard can be fake. Such a device is able to read the PIN-code. This keyboard does not protrude. A skiming device can be installed on the card reader that reads data from the magnetic stripe of the card.
    Choose safe places. ATMs located in the subway, large shopping centers, banks or in crowded places significantly reduce the likelihood of theft of your funds. Use the familiar ATMs.
    If funds are not "out" of the ATM.  Do not leave the ATM and call the hotline of the bank. After consulting with an employee, apply to the police.
