Sir Elton John, a famous musician, philanthropist and public figure, appealed to Ukrainians on the eve of the 30th World AIDS Day – his letter was published today in the "Facts and Comments" newspaper. His another appeal to the international community, will be published on December 1 in the British newspaper Evening Standard.

According to the Public Health Center of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, during the ten months of 2018 – 14 797 new cases of HIV infection were registered (1 975 of them are amongst children under 14 years old). Altogether 330 415 new cases of HIV infection were officially registered in Ukraine since 1987. Since 1987 – 47 646 died from AIDS associated diseases in Ukraine. Ukraine keeps the leading position in Europe in terms of new HIV infection cases. According to UNAIDS experts’ assessment about 240,000 people in Ukraine live with HIV/AIDS.

UNAIDS has launched its new Gender Action Plan for 2018–2023. The plan builds on the progress achieved under the 2013–2018 plan, which provided a framework to advance gender equality and empower women across the UNAIDS Secretariat.

At the end of May, the world-renowned singer, public figure and the founder of the charity foundation aimed at fighting AIDS, Sir Elton John will return to Ukraine at the invitation of the Elena Pinchuk Foundation. As part of his visit, in Kyiv, the Elena Pinchuk Foundation, with the support of the Art-Zavod Platforma, Kurazh Bazar, the All-Ukrainian Network of PLWH and the Radio HIT FM, will hold an informational charity event "A Day with Elton John" aimed at preventing and engaging Ukrainians in the fight against AIDS in Ukraine.

The largest patient organization, the All-Ukrainian Network of PLWH, on the eve of the World Remembrance Day of AIDS Victims, opens a non-governmental medical center, which is a unique development of the patient community. Apple Inc. announced the release of unique smartphones and iPhone 8 iPhone 8 Plus in red. The new model will be timed to coincide with a charity event (RED), in which part of the proceeds from sales of phones will be sent to the Global Fund to Fight AIDS.

Women's HIV is not being treated early enough, the Terence Higgins Trust has said, as it warns that campaigns are too focused on gay men. The charity's research shows that almost half of women with HIV thought they had been diagnosed late, which could shorten their lives and mean their health is worse.
