IOM Ukraine Chief of Mission

In August 2017, IOM Ukraine has welcomed a new Chief of Mission – Dr. Thomas Lothar Weiss, a national of Germany, who has more than 25 years of experience in migration management, research and policy as well as humanitarian emergency assistance. He started his career with IOM in 1997 as Chief of Mission in Zimbabwe and Zambia, and has since served at IOM Headquarters in Geneva, as Regional Representative for the Nordic and Baltic States in Finland, as well as in Mexico, as Chief of Mission. Before arriving in Ukraine, Dr. Weiss was Chief of Mission at IOM Iraq, leading IOM's largest field mission worldwide for three and a half years.

Prior to working for IOM, Dr. Thomas Lothar Weiss was posted in West Africa (Nigeria and Cameroon) for the French Ministry of Development Cooperation and also worked as an associate professor for political sciences at the Paris Chamber of Commerce Business School. Dr. Weiss holds a Master’s Degree in Political Science from Science Po in Paris and a Ph.D. in Economic and Political Geography from Paris-Sorbonne University.
