Launched in 2009 at the EU Prague Summit, it brings our Eastern European partners closer to the EU. The Eastern Partnership supports and encourages reforms in the EaP countries for the benefit of their citizens. The Partnership is based on a commitment to the principles of international law and fundamental values, including democracy, rule of law and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms, as well as to a market economy, sustainable development and good governance. The Partnership is founded on mutual interests and commitments as well as shared ownership and mutual accountability. Read more Key Documents The Eastern Partnership Multilateral Platforms Many of the challenges partner countries face are shared ones and are usefully addressed by all partners together. Multilateral cooperation under the Eastern Partnership involves the EU institutions, the interested Member states and the 6 EaP partner countries – Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine. The Panel is established under Platform 1 “Democracy, good governance and stability” and follows the principles of the EU Global Approach to Migration, promoting cooperation and dialogue towards the harmonization of policies and practices. The Objectives of the Panel include the following: Strengthening asylum and migration systems of Eastern Partners Advancing the dialogue on migration and asylum policies between the Eastern partners and the EU, as well as amongst the Eastern partners Facilitation of exchange of best practices to achieve approximation with international standards Panel on Migration and Asylum: Activities The core of the Panel activities is built around two Panel meetings and two expert workshops per year. The Panel meetings are oriented at policy discussions, whereas expert workshops focus more on the practical mechanisms and implementation. As a rule, the Panel events are organized jointly by one Eastern partn er and one EU MS. Representatives of the governments, international organizations, civil society and academia are invited to prepare presentations and participate in the discussions covering specific topics of relevance to all parties. Whilst the European Commission ensures the overall coordination of the Panel activities, while the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Mission in Ukraine provides general support to the Panel and assists in organization of the meetings. The IOM Mission in Ukraine also manages the Panel website. The Panel is supported and steered by a network of National Focal Points (one or two per participating country). Active involvement of all stakeholders is crucial for the implementation of the Panel activities.
