Ukrainian business environment remains challenging for international companies and Ukrainian courts often fail to remedy injustice. Fortunately, the Government of Ukraine is increasingly more open to resolving disputes with foreign investors through negotiations. At the Conference, speakers and guests discussed ways to ensure the growth of Ukraine's investment potential and the strengthening of the confidence of leading investors. 1st session “From Protection of Investors Rights to New Funding” was moderated by Andrey Bulakh, Managing Partner at Deloitte and presented by following speakers: Pavlo Petrenko, Minister of Justice of Ukraine, Yuliya Kovaliv, Head of Office of National Investment Council under the President of Ukraine, Sevki Acuner, Country Director, EBRD in Ukraine and Iaroslav Gregirchak, Deputy Business Ombudsman. Each gave an advice to investors. At the second session moderated by Konstantin Magaletskyi, Partner at Horizon Capital, Speakers - foreign investors - highlighted issues and problems their Companies faced in Ukraine. Speakers included: Lorraine McMahon, CEO, Morgan Furniture, Mykhailo Merkulov, CEO, Arricano, Vadym Shestakov, COO, Dan-Farm Ukraine, Nadiia Vasylieva, CEO, Microsoft. Speakers named the most challenging problems of Ukrainian economy: currency and fiscal control, denial of justice in Ukrainian courts, fighting against piracy and protecting IP, nontransparent system of regulatory permits. Yet all investors at the panel concluded that their companies shall continue investing in Ukraine. At the third panel moderated by ACC President Andy Hunder, speakers talked about effective measures to prevent and solve various investor-state disputes. The panel included James Lindley, Senior Commercial Officer, U.S. Embassy in Ukraine, Oleh Marchenko, Head of Dispute Resolution practice, MARCHENKO DANEVYCH, Petro Matiaszek, Deputy Director, UkraineInvest - Ukraine Investment promotion office, Yuriy Prikhodko, Public Affairs and Government Relations Director, PBN Hill+Knowlton Strategies. The conference attracted CEOs/CFOs/GROs of international companies, Ukrainian government officials, representatives of international institutions, legal and public affairs experts.
