Ukrainians return to the active use of their cards in ATMs and POS-terminals and become interested in contemporary card products with many opportunities to pay with their card. According to Ukrainian Processing Center (UPC) data Ukrainian card market begins to return to pre-crisis stability and is developing again on the stable pace. The number of transactions processed by UPC increased by 12% YOY comparing to June of 2009 and reached 37.2 million. In July UPC started testing of the EMV PIN-change in ATMs and remote key loading to help banks to manage their ATMs more efficiently and to increase the security level of ATMs. UPC plans to deploy these features already in September-October this year. The trend of reaching the higher efficiency level of ATM networks and cut costs in banks is still “topic of the day”. Two more banks entered UPC’s shared ATM network “ATMosphere” which now consists of 2800 ATMs of 23 banks distributed in 200 towns of Ukraine. Ukrainians now spend much more time and money on Internet than few years ago and the electronic commerce is developing very quickly. During the last year the number of merchants supported by UPC’s ECommreceConnect system that helps to process 3-d secured card payments on their web pages increased by 90% and reached 1027 registered e-shops in June. Market recovery is also seen in new banks on the market cards issuing activity. During the last three months Bank of Georgia and Piraeus Bank Ukraine connected to UPC’s processing center and started first transactions. Availability of UPC processing system in June reached 99,99%.
