The aim of the secondment was technological optimization and reading of guarantee indexes of titanium sponge production. The work of our enterprise’s specialists in PRC passed in close cooperation with the Pangang Group International Economic & Trading Co., Ltd company's employees. It should be noted that the staff of the Chinese side has been trained and has sufficient qualification and work experience. Achieved index of titanium extracting on the titanium sponge block (98,5 % and more) processing stage meets conditions of the warranty. The capacity and indexes of production equipment provide a guaranteed commodity output of titanium sponge 14900 tpy and more. Existing production technology ensures the release of high quality titanium sponge according to PRC standards. During the period of secondment our specialists gave recommendations to the Chinese side and after fulfilling of these recommendations it is expected significant improvement of production performance. In the result of done work the Chinese side accepted the contract production of titanium sponge with the capacity 15000 tpy for commercial operation. Secondment’s assignment was completed successfully. Besides, our specialists visited the titanium slag production plant of the Pangang Group International Economic & Trading Co., Ltd. SE “SRD Titanium Institute” participated in designing of this plant. Our specialists noted positive dynamics of production work, in particular, ore-smelting furnace, designed with the direct involvement of SE “SRD Titanium Institute”. For today prevailing prices on 99,8% sponge is 43 000-45 000 yuan ($6525-6828) per ton ex works and market participants generally expect stable prices until holidays in China. Despite the strengthening of the local prices on sponge Chinese manufacturers inactivity specified in manufacture restoring because demand improvement on industrial consuming sectors seems very symbolic and totally inadequate for renewal of many manufactories which were shut down in the past two years. Almost all manufacturers do not hide their expectative and observant position. If to believe Chinese data in 2016 “in reserve” would stay capacity no less than 30 000 ton per year of sponge that’s why very likely that Chinese titanium sponge production would be succumbed to rigid "optimization" this year. RUR into its own VSMPO-Avisma, the world-biggest titanium producer, invested at the end of 2014-start of 2015 more than 300 mln. RUR into its own enterprise VSMPO Titan Ukraina CJSC, which produces titanium pipes in Dnepropetrovsk region. At that, Russian company is as before dependant on the Ukrainian titanium raw material, however, according to the results of 2014 it still did not invest into development of its own Russian deposit “Tsentralnoe” in Tambov region. Avisma owns it since 2011, in future it would make it possible to waive the Ukrainian import. Russia ranks No.2 in the world as far as reserves of titanium raw materials is concerned, but it develops not a single big ore deposit. Moreover, Avisma plans to invest into Ukrainian deposit. Apart from the Ukrainian plant producing pipes Avisma keeps in possession one more asset for titanium ore production and concentration in Dnepropetrovsk region, Demurinsky Mining and Processing Works (together with Volchanskoe deposit). The plant is not involved in ilmenite production, the start-up date is continuously shifted, therefore, Avisma is compelled to buy raw materials from other Ukrainian suppliers, mainly, from Volnogorsky Mining and Processing Works. VSMPO-Avisma imported more than 100 thous. tons of ilmenite from Ukraine in 2011–2014 in the amount of $40–60 mln. every year. Owing to the conflict in Ukraine late in 2014 Avisma procured pilot lots from Senegal and from Australia in July 2015, but these deliveries do not change the overall picture. It was registered in the company’s accounts that it was looking for new suppliers. However, despite the company’s declaration about intention to diversify Ukrainian deliveries, Mikhail Voevodin, its Director General, announced in July 2015 their intention to launch Demurinsky Mining and Processing Works in 2016 (if the design stage is handed over in time) as well the company’s plans to invest around $15 mln. into the plant next year. According to Andrei Trtelnikov, analyst of RMG investment company, in case any problem arises with the deliveries of titanium ore from Ukraine, the company will begin procuring it from the other countries, e.g., from Vietnam or Australia. Due to low cost of ore in the final produce cost, the company is not susceptible to serious risks caused by fluctuation of ilmenite prices or by political risks as in case with Ukraine. Avisma acquired the pipe production plant in Dnepropetrovsk in 2005 as a result of takeover by the Swedish company Carl Edblom Titan AB, which possessed the plant at that time. The produce of VSMPO Titan Ukraina CJSC is supplied to 26 countries except Russia. The Russian company procured Demurinsky Mining and Processing Works in Dnepropetrovsk together with Volchanskoe deposit in July 2012. The beginning of ilmenite deliveries from the plant for Avisma is being shifted all the time, nowadays they are talking about launching production in 2016.
