San Diego Chargers

Programs

The Chargers organization has a tradition of service to the San Diego community that began more than 50 years ago and is as strong today as ever!

Programs created by the Spanos family and the Chargers have led the way in providing not only critical resources, but fun as well, to young and old alike.  And despite their busy schedules, it is not uncommon to see Chargers players out speaking at local schools, reading to children at libraries, visiting military bases and local hospitals or offering a hand to nonprofit organizations. They do it because they understand they’re a vital part of the fabric of this great community.

As part of this annual support, each year, the Chargers host numerous programs to benefit our community, these include:

Chargers Annual Blood Drive

Begun more than 35 years ago as an emergency blood drive to help Chargers kicker Rolf Benirschke, the Chargers annual Blood Drive is now one of the largest blood drives in the nation – even at one time listed in the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest blood drive ever held on a single day in a single location.  Join us the Tuesday before Thanksgiving and give the gift of life!

Back to School Shoe Distribution

For more than 25 years, the San Diego Chargers have teamed up with Payless ShoeSource to provide more than 1,000 new pairs of school shoes and socks to San Diego County children in need.

Bikes For Kids

Nearly a decade ago, the Chargers teamed-up with the non-profit Bikes for Kids to go into different inner-city schools each year and provide hundreds of new bicycles!

Kids' NewsDay

2014 will mark the 25th anniversary of the Chargers involvement with Kids NewsDay.  Every year, Chargers players and Charger Girls are out on street corners to sell the special edition of the San Diego Union-Tribune which benefits Rady Children's Hospital.

Annual Holiday Food Drive Collection

For more than a decade, the Chargers have partnered with the Jacobs and Cushman San Diego Food Bank to host the Annual Holiday Food Drive Kick-Off at the stadium generating literally tons of food to help local families in need.

Law Enforcement Teddy Bear Drive

The Teddy Bear Drive began more than 15 years ago when a Coronado Police Officer delivered a single carload of teddy bears to the hospital.  This simple gesture from the heart was the spark for this annual event that the Chargers have assisted for more than a decade.

Chargers Toss for Tots

The annual Toss for Tots pledge program is a fun and important way to help Rady Children’s Hospital and Health Center.  Fans pledge set dollar amounts per Chargers touchdown during the regular season and receive special visits and memorabilia for their support – join today!

Annual Toys for Tots Collection – Presented by CYMER

The San Diego Chargers are honored to join forces with the U.S. Marine Corps to host the annual Toys for Tots toy drive each December at the stadium, presented by CYMER. Fans are asked to bring new, unwrapped gifts to help local children have a brighter holiday!
