Van Riemsdyk was injured late in the second period when he slid into the net, his right arm/shoulder colliding with the post. Coach Joel Quenneville said van Riemsdyk’s injury, as of now, doesn’t require surgery. Quenneville wasn’t sure if van Riemsdyk would be put on injured reserve. The defenseman played all 82 games for the Blackhawks last season but had injury problems prior to that. In good news, Marian Hossa is now “likely” to play Saturday night, Quenneville said. Hossa has missed the last two games with a lower-body injury he sustained on Tuesday night. Scott Darling will get the start vs. the Maple Leafs. The Blackhawks have had an up-and-down start to the season. Once again, their penalty kill hasn’t helped. It allowed two more goals to the Blue Jackets and has now allowed 11 through the first five games. [SHOP: Gear up, Blackhawks fans! ] “We can’t say much about our PK right now. It’s definitely a sore spot and it’s almost like let’s look at it as a fresh beginning and look at trying to get through one kill, and the first 20 seconds get through that rotation,” Quenneville said. “Let’s take baby steps in our approach, whether it’s a four-man pressure, denying entries or up-ice pressure, in the shooting lanes, make sure we’re clearing, all the things that go into it. It’s been tough right now and certainly we have to repair it and fix it tonight.” Meanwhile, there’s nothing new to report on Andrew Desjardins, who suffered a lower-body injury in the Blackhawks’ preseason finale in St. Louis. Quenneville said it’ll still be a few weeks until Desjardins skates. Campbell appeared to be headed for healthy scratch status the past two days, when he was not among the top three defensive pairs at practice. But coach Joel Quenneville said Friday morning that Campbell is in. He would not say who was out. “We want to get our defense in there. He’s been out too many games; we want him playing,” Quenneville said, referring to van Riemsdyk. “And we feel that there are seven D, they all deserve to play as well.” The Blackhawks could go with seven defensemen. But considering Quenneville liked their four-line rotation better the last game, it would be a surprise if the Blackhawks changed that. Ryan Hartman will play after missing the last two games with a lower-body injury. [SHOP: Gear up, Blackhawks fans! ] Meanwhile, Artem Anisimov returns to Columbus for the first time since he was traded to the Blackhawks — he did not play in the regular-season finale here last April. “I already experienced it when I was first traded to Columbus [from New York], but this feeling is different,” Anisimov said of being back here. “I don’t know how to describe it but it’s still weird coming back.” The Blackhawks will see former teammate Brandon Saad, whose Blue Jackets are playing just their second game in six days. Columbus lost their opening two games. “Yeah, it’s a little bit weird,” Saad said. “It’s almost like the season didn’t start with the break we had, so we’ve had a lot of practice and a lot of review. But we’re definitely looking to get back and paying games.” BLACKHAWKS AT BLUE JACKETS Time: 6 p.m. TV: CSN-Chicago Radio: WGN 720AM Projected lineups Blackhawks Tyler Motte-Jonathan Toews-Richard Panik Artemi Panarin-Artem Anisimov-Patrick Kane Vinnie Hinostroza-Nick Schmaltz-Ryan Hartman Dennis Rasmussen-Marcus Kruger-Jordin Tootoo Duncan Keith-Niklas Hjalmarsson Michal Kempny-Brent Seabrook Trevor van Riemsdyk-Brian Campbell Corey Crawford Injuries: Marian Hossa (lower body), Andrew Desjardins (lower body). On Saturday against Nashville the Blackhawks’ cushy 3-0 lead eventually became 3-2, then 4-2, then 4-3 before they won 5-3 . On Tuesday it was even more stunning, as their 4-0 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers disappeared in five minutes, 26 seconds. The Blackhawks scored three unanswered to pull that one out, 7-4 . Yes, the Blackhawks won both, and as Duncan Keith said, “it’s a positive we were able to find a way to win. That’s important.” “But it’s not ideal,” he added. No, it’s not. And for the Blackhawks, especially these last few seasons, it’s bizarre. We talk about the two-goal lead being the worst in hockey, and there’s plenty of evidence and comebacks to support that. But when three- and four-goal leads are fragile, that’s really not good. “We’ve had issues in the past when we’ve [lost] leads,” Quenneville said after Tuesday’s game. “We’ve done a good job over the last few years, but I can go back years where we’d have leads and we’d get caught, knowing we were trying to make [our lead] five instead of just being happy to be at four.” [SHOP: Gear up, Blackhawks fans! ] Brent Seabrook agreed with that assessment. “We can’t be worried about getting more goals. We have to worry about our own zone and playing the right way. By doing the right things we get some chances to put a few more in,” he said after Wednesday’s practice. “We have a 4-0 lead, 4-1 lead going into the third, our main focus has to be keeping it a “1” in their column. We have to focus on eliminating their chances and playing well defensively.” The Blackhawks got away from that late in the second period last night. Maybe it was a little complacency on their side coupled with desperation for the Flyers. But one bad moment turned into four real fast. The puck possession they had practiced so well in getting that four-goal lead faded. Mix in trying to do too much and bad things happened. “We have to be smarter with the puck and it starts with what we do with it,” Quenneville said. “It starts in the offensive zone, how we leave the puck, where we put it late in shifts and how we back check.” The Blackhawks came away with victories in their last two games but they were tougher than they had to be. The last few years, the Blackhawks have been very good at stemming the tide, thwarting the opposition’s comeback before it became an issue. They need to get back to that. “Sometimes that other team’s pressing. We talk a lot about that in the playoffs but it happens in the course of the regular season as well. It’s just identifying that and realizing when the momentum changes. Right at the end of the second period it was just a bad start and it carried over,” Keith said. “We were able to do [turn it around] but we have to try to change it earlier.” Tags: Brent Seabrook , Chicago Blackhawks , Duncan Keith , Joel Quenneville , Nashville Predators , Philadelphia Flyers Load more Trevor van Riemsdyk out about a month as Blackhawks host Toronto Brian Campbell, Trevor van Riemsdyk in vs. Columbus Blackhawks trying to stem opponents’ comebacks Blackhawks Notebook: Andrew Desjardins’ absence and Duncan Keith’s minutes Duncan Keith has two assists in preseason debut, Blackhawks best Red Wings Duncan Keith, Corey Crawford to make preseason debuts for Blackhawks vs. Red Wings Blackhawks' Duncan Keith feeling encouraged at Day 1 of camp Blackhawks GM Bowman backs Duncan Keith's decision Duncan Keith won't play for Team Canada in World Cup of Hockey FOLLOW US Facebook Twitter Google Plus Instagram ©2016 Comcast SportsNet Chicago, LLC A Division of NBC Universal Advertise Affiliates Employment Opportunities Internships Independent Programming Report Parents Guide to TV Ratings Press Releases Contact Us Tickets CSN Talent Privacy Policy Purchase Policy Term of Service Live FAQ Ad Choices GET NEWSLETTERS & ALERTS SIGN UP
