Hands On Charlotte

The eighth edition of Service Juris Day — an annual event organized by Hands On Charlotte — will bring together members of the legal community in a one-day, hands-on volunteering experience on Saturday, September 10, 2016.  Teams and individuals from Charlotte’s law firms and other legal service providers join together to accomplish a large-scale project in one day. (Family members are also welcome to volunteer, but for safety reasons the minimum age to participate is 8 years old.)

For 2016, the recipient of the SJD volunteer effort will once again be Friendship Gardens, a grassroots program that utilizes a network of community gardens to provide fresh, organically grown produce to Friendship Trays (Charlotte's Meals on Wheels program). We will work at the hub of Friendship Gardens’ operation, the Urban Farm at Garinger High School., which Service Juris Day volunteers helped build in 2013. Volunteers will be harvesting, weeding, composting, and helping with many more “hands on” activities.

Garinger High School is surrounded by Sugar Creek Road, Eastway Drive, Shamrock Drive and Elkwood Circle (see map below). The Friendship Gardens Urban Farm is behind the school’s baseball diamond (green map marker). Use the entrance to the school at the intersection of Shamrock and Elkwood (red star).
The nearest address for your GPS is 2601 Shamrock Drive

Please plan to arrive by 8:30 for sign-in and breakfast; we’ll start work at 9:00. We look forward to seeing you then. Thanks!

Do I have to make a donation to volunteer?
There is a suggested donation of $20 per volunteer.  We also have several levels of sponsorship that will cover a certain number of volunteers. Sponsorships are fully deductible and will cover the costs of the event, all supplies and equipment and will support Hands On Charlotte’s thousands of volunteers in their work year-round in our community.
