GrumpyPLUR shared: So a little less than a year back from TomorrowWorld 2014 I went to Mad Decent Block Party afterparty at Webster Hall in NYC. Diplo was one of the main headliners that night so I decided to go with a bunch of my friends. So at the afterparty I had a grumpy cat perler on (different than the one behind my poster in this picture) which said NO on it. During his set I would keep holding it up when he would tell the crowd to do something. After the set he took my grumpy cat and walked off. So I decided that at his set at TomorrowWorld 2014 I would not only have another grumpy made, but I would get that poster made up and hold it up during his set. Next thing I know Diplo is giving me a shoutout during the middle of his set and then came over to the barricade afterwards to take this picture with me. Easily one of the most memorable festival experiences I've ever had. Enger E Blandin H shared: Best Day Ever... Just pure simple love Kristin Hance shared: TomorrowWorld best time of my life Kenneth moncada shared: TomorrowWorld quedará siempre en nuestro corazón No será un Adiós si no un hasta Pronto Michael Prior shared: We remain forever in thoughts Mike shared: I wrote this in October of 2014. I had just arrived home from TomorrowWorld, which was my first festival. I wrote this because I wanted to find a way to express to other people the emotions I experienced while I was there. My TomorrowWorld story: When I bought my TomorrowWorld ticket many months ago, the excitement I felt was not hard to notice. I began telling everyone in my life who would listen, from family to friends and to co-workers, about how excited I was to be able to attend this Mecca for followers of electronic music. I really felt as though this was something I simply HAD to do, in order to complete my experience in this community which had already changed my life. I had been attending events for several years in both Buffalo, NY where I live, and Chicago, where I had attended my first show, a warehouse rave that blew my mind and instantly got me hooked. Despite my many experiences, I had not yet made it to a festival of any kind. When my best friend and longtime raving buddy who moved to North Carolina a year ago decided he was also going to make the trip to TomorrowWorld, it made it even more important to me. Little did I know, this trip would end up being even more important to me than I predicted. At the age of 27 and having recently completed graduate studies in a field that frowns upon the scene because of its unfortunate stereotypes, I felt like time might be running out for me to attend a festival, and that having the TomorrowWorld experience would be allow me to eventually make my graceful exit from the scene, content with having experienced everything it has to offer. I had not yet found a job in my field, so I didn’t need to leave the scene immediately, but I felt that the time to move on could well be right around the corner. I really felt that having a chance to experience so many popular DJ’s and producers from a wide variety of sub-genres with such an amazing group of people would allow me to move on with my life and into the next chapter of being a young adult. The amazing lineup made me even more pleased that I had picked this festival to be my first and likely last. After months of anticipation, Thursday September 25th finally came and I arrived at the Dreamville, the festival campground. It did not take long for me to realize that this experience was going to not only be amazing, but that it was going to change my life. Dreamville was filled with people who wanted to lift everyone around them up, including me. There were no strangers or enemies, even among citizens of rival nations such as the Serbs and Bosnians, who camped near each other not far from me and were peaceful and friendly all weekend. Dreamville is a community filled with only the most positive emotions. I made lifelong friends in Dreamville, who made it clear to me that nothing mattered to them except that I be myself, follow PLUR, and not judge others. I have never felt so at home in my entire life. It was pure magic. So many of the things that divide us in reality - race, ethnicity, sexual orientation, age, religion, socioeconomic status – did not matter at all in Dreamville, As Thursday night drew to a close with the end of the pre-party in Dreamville known as “The Gathering,” it became clear to me that this experience was not just living up to the expectations I had, but exceeding them. I had already made so many friends and had created so many memories, and I had not even entered the actual festival grounds yet. When we finally did enter the festival grounds on Friday, I cannot even describe in words how overcome I was with what I saw. There were so many people there and so many great vibes everywhere we looked. The enthusiastic high-fives from passersby, the fun conversations we had with random people walking with us, the making friends with total strangers from faraway lands, the light shows, the hugs – it all gave me a feeling that I can only describe as total warmth and security. We met so many people from countries such as Pakistan, Qatar, and Argentina, which I had no idea even had such a following for electronic music. I was in a state I can only describe as semi-shock mixed with total elation. One of the lasting memories of the festival for me was when me and my friend were sitting down inside the trance addict stage on Friday night during Myon and Shane 54’s set, just looking around and taking it all in, when a friendly guy came up to us and asked my friend if we needed any water or anything. When my friend said no thanks and that we were ok just zoning out to the music and enjoying our first festival, he put his hand on my friend’s shoulder and said, “Welcome home.” We made our way to all of the stages throughout the weekend and each one seemed to have its own unique vibe to it that was very different than the others. We returned to the main stage in the evening for the final sets of the night on all three days of the festival. What we experienced at the main stage during those closing sets was quite exhilarating. The flags of every nation present at TomorrowWorld waved high in the air with intense pride, along with some very interesting and creative totems. On the second night during Steve Aoki’s incredible set, I noticed the flag of Iran flying high next to the flag of Israel, a sight that makes me smile every time I think about it. The thousands of people there and the energy that they all gave off was enough to make me dance like crazy. The lights, the flags, the beautiful setting of the main stage with all its intricate details, and the music all combined together for an experience that can only be accurately described if you go there feel it for yourself. It literally brought tears to my eyes. The final day of the festival was the climax of the experience as one would hope it would be. We found ourselves in a true state of trance in the full-on stage thanks to likes of Audien, Ferry Corsten, and Andrew Rayel. We greatly enjoyed the friendly vibes at the Mythical Frames stage with energetic sets from 3LAU and Keys N Krates before heading to the main stage for the final sets of the evening. On the way to the main stage, we passed a young man and woman who stopped to tell our crew how much they admired our Legend of Zelda Triforce flag that my friend had made and my Legend of Zelda t-shirt. The young man took a picture of me standing with the flag, and proceeded to take something from his bag and hand it to me without expecting anything in return. It was an intricate Legend of Zelda Kandi cuff, the most elaborate bit of rave jewelry I had ever been lucky enough to own. I was so overcome by this gift that I didn’t know what to say other than “thank you so much man.” I realize that to people who have never been to a legitimate electronic music event, this might sound somewhat silly, but anyone who has ever traded Kandi at a show knows the exact emotions I experienced in that moment, which are unforgettable. Several weeks later I was able to find the young man on Facebook and thank him for the gift once again, thus solidifying the connection we made at the festival. High-fiving everyone along the way, we made our way to the main stage, where David Guetta played a rousing, energetic electro-house set that blew me away. Finally, at 10:30, Kaskade took to the decks for the final set of the festival on the main stage. The atmosphere during Kaskade’s set was something that I will never forget. Our entire crew from Buffalo and Rochester was united as one group at this point for the first time all weekend outside of Dreamville. Kaskade’s set was so uplifting that it added even more euphoria to the already amazing feelings I was experiencing by being there with such an amazing group of people. As Kaskade’s set progressed and his melodic and atmospheric style drew me in, I found myself engaging in some heavy introspection. I realized that I had enjoyed this experience in ways that had gone far beyond my expectations. I began to reflect on the main reason that compelled me to come to TomorrowWorld in the first place all those months ago – to make sure I experienced a festival while I still had the chance so that I did not have any regrets in the future when I’m off doing other things. I was supposed to be content to move on with life after this to be more focused on important things, yet I realized right then and there that I cannot possibly say good-bye to this part of my life. I realized how incredible it is that I belong to a group of amazing people who put the values of peace, love, unity, and respect above everything else in their lives in a world which is filled with chaos, violence, and uncertainty. How could I even think about leaving this? It became obvious to me that this scene is part of my identity. It’s who I am, and I am proud to be part of it and thankful for it. The electronic music scene and TomorrowWorld have allowed me to experience things that I never thought were possible. This newfound optimism has caused me to believe that many things I thought I was not capable of are indeed possible for me to achieve. I also realized that the best and most rewarding friendships I have ever had are with people I met in this scene, who truly love and accept me for whom I am not who I used to wish I was. In this moment, with several thousand friends and Kaskade urging me on, I realized that this festival was not the end – but just the beginning. This is where I belong, and I cannot walk away from it. That friendly guy from Friday night who welcomed us home was right. This is my home and I will always return to it. What I have learned from this scene that was reinforced my TomorrowWorld experience is that what ought to define us most as individual people is how we treat other people in all aspects of our lives. That’s what ultimately is most important. Jobs, careers, material things, and even money are all very important but they alone should not define us. If we let that happen we become boring, normal and cold. And so as Kaskade’s mesmerizing set finally came to an inevitable end and the festival officially concluded, I almost immediately began thinking about how I need to experience this magic again. My best friend and I made a promise to ourselves and to each other that no matter what the situation next year – career or otherwise - that we would make it here again and continue my our lives as members of the electronic music community and as the people of Tomorrow. I realized right then that my life was never going to be the same after this experience. I left Dreamville the next morning a changed person with a reassured sense of self. I no longer fear the stereotypes and assumptions people make about me being a follower of electronic music. I am who I am and I know what I am capable of and that’s what is most important. I realized that if I am true to myself and those around me, good things will happen. The trip home and the first few days back in “reality” were filled with depression and homesickness combined with the occasional burst of excitement from telling anyone who would listen what an amazing, life-changing experience I had at the festival. Once these feelings wore off and TomorrowWorld 2014 became yesterday’s business to everyone who was not there, I reluctantly transitioned back into my life, but not without noticing that I felt more inspired to undertake obstacles that I have been faced with that I previously avoided dealing with out of fear of failure. That fear has been replaced with confidence in my own abilities and motivation to improve myself. I also felt encouraged to repair and enhance relationships with many people who I have come to realize are very important in my life. Most importantly, I felt more compelled to include PLUR in all aspects of my life than ever before, because for the first time in life I believe it’s possible to do that. I cannot put into words the benefits that my TomorrowWorld experience gave me. It reassured me that this scene is where I belong, and made it clear to me that I need to be proud of that, and accept it as part of my identity, while reaching for my goals at the same time. At some point in life, every human being on earth begins a journey to find true happiness and security by “finding himself” with the help of others and through the process of self-discovery. My experience at TomorrowWorld has been the most rewarding stop on that journey which began long ago. I cannot wait to come back next year to celebrate this newfound state of self-acceptance with the amazing people of Tomorrow. Chris Mendez shared: It's unfortunate that TomorrowWorld will not be taking place this year. I was looking forward to returning with close friends. However, this has to be said: I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to attend by myself and have this experience ... Just for me. The universe willed it at the exact moment I needed it. For the entirety of that weekend, I'd forgotten all of my problems, let loose, and just enjoyed myself. So much so, that when I came home and crossed the threshold of my house, I started bawling uncontrollably. Everyone I met at TomorrowWorld made me feel so welcome. Like I belonged. It was like being the outcast and getting invited to sit with the cool kids. I was a raw, unedited, uninhibited version of myself and that was liberating! I will always cherish those memories! The experience was unlike anything I've ever been a part of. Despite the weather, my boyfriend and I made the most of it. Staying in dreamville was like being home with my family. Everyone is there for one reason and the love that was felt was overwhelming. One of my favorite moments of my life was watching my favorite DJ Tchami from the front row. I felt so much energy, love and good vibes from the crowd. It began to drizzle and everyone continued to dance and smile and enjoy the moment. I truly look forward to TomorrowWorld 2017. Our group stayed at Dreamville and we made the best out of what Mother Nature threw at us, it ended up being incredible. I loved jumping around in the puddles and dancing to the music carefree and everyone else's energy was at the same level. To me it was awesome that rain or shine we came to rage and meet people from all parts of the world. We lived. We danced. We bonded.
