Ex-teammate Stephane Lasme explains By Jessica Camerato | CSNPhilly.com July 12, 2016 4:15 PM LAS VEGAS – Dario Saric is surrounded by questions. Will he come to the NBA? When will he play for the Sixers ? Where does he fit on the court? More significantly, who is he? Stephane Lasme can answer that. Lasme played with Saric on the 2014-15 Anadolu Efes squad, during which time they became teammates and good friends. Lasme, the 46th pick in the 2007 draft, had stints in the NBA and D-League, including the Warriors, Heat, Celtics, D-Fenders and Red Claws. Born in Gabon, a country in West Africa, has played on multiple international teams, most recently Galatasaray Odeabank Istanbul last season. Lasme was named the 2016 Eurocup Finals MVP. Saric has been playing overseas since the Sixers acquired him on draft night 2014. The 22-year-old forward is reportedly close to joining the Sixers next season. Saric has until July 17 to notify his current team of his choice. Lasme explained why there is more to his decision than simply moving to the United States. “He always wanted to [come to the NBA] really bad,” said Lasme, who is playing for the Hawks' summer league team. “I think he wanted to come here more than he wanted to stay. I talk to Dario a lot and I kind of know how he feels about the NBA. He wants to come, but there’s so many things around him. Dario’s not just Dario Saric. There is Croatia behind him. The whole country is watching him, [all of] Europe.” This season Saric averaged 11.7 points, 5.8 rebounds and 1.5 assists in 24 Euroleague games. He shot 50 percent from the field and 40.3 percent from long range. Over the weekend Saric recorded an 18-point, 13-rebound double-double in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament championship game for Croatia. “If you want a guy that gives a hundred percent every time, he’s such a hard worker and he wants to play on both ends of the floor,” Lasme said. “He wants to play hard on defense, so hard on offense, and he tries to get every rebound.” Lasme believes Saric will continue to improve his shot in the NBA. He also predicts Saric will people will be surprised by another aspect of Saric’s game. “Here, people underestimate how easily he can handle the ball,” Lasme said. “He can handle it like a guard. That’s going to help him a lot to transition. … He’s got a pretty high IQ. He knows the right pass, he knows the right play. He’s not selfish.” Off the court, Saric kept Lasme and their teammates amused while still being focused at the same time. “Dario is funny, he’s a jokester,” Lasme said. “He wakes up every morning with a smile. He has energy when he walks into a room.” Lasme continued, “He’s a great kid. Really respectful, really professional. He’s so much more mature than his age. You can talk to him and you feel like you’re talking to an adult.” The Sixers have been waiting two years for Saric to join the team. Lasme expects his former teammate would make an impact if he plays in Philadelphia. “He’s so talented because he can do so many things,” Lasme said. “If you want to win, Dario would be a good person to have on your team.” Tags: Dario Saric , Jessica Camerato , nba , Philadelphia 76ers , Sixers , Stephane Lasme Source: Sixers draft pick Furkan Korkmaz will not join team this season Source: Sixers draft pick Furkan Korkmaz will not join team this season By CSNPhilly.com Staff July 11, 2016 3:48 PM Furkan Korkmaz, the Sixers pick at No. 26 in last month's NBA draft, will not be joining the team this season, a source confirmed to CSN's Jessica Camerato. Korkmaz will remain with Anadolu Efes, the same team in Turkey that Dario Saric has played for since 2014. Because of buyout rules, it was assumed that Korkmaz, 18, would spend the season overseas. He averaged just 8.8 minutes in 19 games with Anadolu Efes last year and needs more time to mature physically and on the court. While Korkmaz is not coming over, it continues to look like Saric will. Eurohoops.net translated a Saric quote last week that he is " going back home and then to the USA for the Sixers ." The Philadelphia Inquirer reported on Sunday that Saric is expected to sign a deal with the Sixers while they're in Las Vegas for the summer league. On the broadcast of the Sixers' summer league game Sunday, Bryan Colangelo said "hopefully" in reference to Saric's presence on the team next season. The alleged incident occurred around 2:30 a.m. Sunday in the city where Green played for the Spartans from 2008 to 2012. East Lansing Police Lt Scott Wrigglesworth said the alleged victim, an adult male, was not injured and did not flag down an officer after the incident. "We typically have numerous cops out when the bars let out," Wrigglesworth said. If convicted of assault or assault and battery, Green could face 93 days in jail, a $500 fine or both. Messages seeking comment were left for Green, an NBA All-Star who was selected to play basketball for the U.S. at the Olympics next month. The Warriors said the team was collecting information about the incident and declined further comment "until we have a better understanding of the situation." "We are in contact with the Warriors organization and are in the process of gathering more information," NBA spokesman Mike Bass said. Records from the East Lansing District Court show that a $200 cash bond was paid and that Green was scheduled for arraignment on July 20. A pretrial hearing will then be scheduled, at which it will determined if there is a "resolution to the case," according to East Lansing City Attorney Thomas Yeadon. Green helped Golden State come within a game of repeating as NBA champions last month after helping the franchise win a league-record 73 games and being named an NBA All-Star for the first time. The 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward is a versatile player on offense, ranking second in the NBA with 13 triple-doubles last season. He a two-time all-defensive team player. Green sparks his and his team's performance with a lot of passion and aggression that has drawn discipline from game and league officials. He was suspended a game by the league for a fourth-quarter scuffle with LeBron James in Game 4 of the NBA Finals, which the Cleveland Cavaliers won in seven games.
