Trent Baalke on Anthony Davis

SANTA CLARA – One day after Anthony Davis’ Twitter rant directed at the 49ers’ front office, general manager Trent Baalke said the next move belongs to the retired offensive tackle.

“There’s no decision to be made,” Baalke answered when asked if the team has made a decision about his status. “Right now, he’s not in the National Football League. He’s retired. So there’s no reason to even speculate on what we’re going to do or what we might do.

“He’s got to be reinstated into the league and that’s a process that takes some time. He doesn’t put in and a day later he’s reinstated. There’s a process that he has to go through.”

On the eve of the NFL Draft, Davis first stated on his Twitter account, “The 49ers should Draft an Offensive Tackle in the top 10.”

He followed that up with the since-deleted post: “I do not want to work with a front office or anyone else who seemingly doesn't want to win as bad as I do.”

Agent Drew Rosenhaus, who represents Davis, declined to comment on the issue between Davis and the 49ers.

The 49ers retained their rights to Davis’ contract after he announced his retirement last June. Under terms of his contract, he is scheduled to make $2.35 million in base salary with an additional $1 million available in a roster bonus.

Davis, 26, previously suggested on social media he paid back $2 million to the 49ers when he retired. Davis was required to pay back a portion of the $7.5 million signing bonus he received in 2013 for a deal he signed through the 2019 season.

Davis entered the NFL in 2010 as the No. 11 overall draft pick from Rutgers. He started all 71 games in which he appeared at right tackle.
