I had nothing going on, other than selling vacuum cleaners.” Twenty-eight-year-old actor and former Marine Adam Driver is best known for playing the role of Adam Sackler, Lena Dunham’s quasi-boyfriend on HBO’s much-discussed and highly controversial Girls . In his first major television role, Adam’s emerged as one of TV’s breakout villains. MAGNETISM While Lena Dunham’s Hannah can’t seem to escape Adam’s animal magnetism, women all over the country have seemingly banned together in collective disdain of his Girls character. Yet, as we all know, being the bad guy doesn’t necessarily mean you won’t get the girl. Often, it’s actually the polar opposite. In fact, this past May, Adam was reportedly stalked by an overzealous Girls fan. It’s only the first season, Adam. You may have to get used to this. SUCCESS Though he had flown quietly under Hollywood’s mainstream radar prior to landing his role on Girls , Adam has silently amassed himself quite a career. He’s appeared in films like You Don’t Know Jack , Gayby and J. Edgar . On top of the next season of Girls , he’ll be appearing next year in the Coen brothers’ Inside Llewyn Davis and Steven Spielberg’s Lincoln . Adam Driver Biography After spending the first five years of his life in San Diego, Adam’s family packed up and moved to small-town Indiana, where, by all accounts, Adam enjoyed a relatively routine adolescence. Then 9/11 struck, and Adam’s life suddenly became anything but routine. ADAM JOINS THE MARINES Just a few months following the horrific events of September 11th, Driver decided to join the United States Marine Corps. Adam credits 9/11 as being half of his inspiration for joining, with his desire to leave Indiana providing the rest. After serving for two and a half years, and just two months prior to being deployed to Iraq, Driver injured his sternum in a biking accident. After healing, he wound up injuring it again during training, resulting in an honorable medical discharge. ADAM GOES TO JULLIARD After leaving the military, Driver decided to try his hand at acting. At first he studied close to home at the University of Indianapolis, but after just a year, he transferred to Julliard in New York City. He lived in a tiny Hoboken, New Jersey apartment while studying drama at the prestigious performing arts conservatory. Following his graduation in 2009, Driver immediately began appearing in plays, including 2010’s Mrs. Warren’s Profession . TELEVISION & FILM Adam’s first major television experience was a guest spot on an episode of Law & Order , and was soon followed by a small role in the award-winning Jack Kevorkian biopic, You Don’t Know Jack , which was Driver’s first experience working with HBO. Then, after landing his star-making role on Girls , Driver was cast in a handful of feature films, including 2011’s J. Edgar and 2012’s Gayby , Not Waving but Drowning and Frances Ha .
