American Airlines Liz Landau tells WSB-TV that American Flight 232 from Dallas-Fort Worth was hit as it arrived at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport just before 9 p.m. Friday.

She says she didn’t know what kind of bus or if there were passengers on the bus. There were passengers on the plane.

Landau says the passengers got off the plane and the outbound flight to Dallas was canceled, so they could check out the aircraft.

An email to an airport spokesman wasn’t immediately returned.

After taking a year off, 11-year old Sam (that’s short for Samantha) Gordon is back on the football field. She is the only girl in her tackle football league and in 2012, she was the first female football player to appear on a Wheaties Box.

Still not impressed? Check out her highlight reel as she dominates on both offense and defense. The only thing worrying me about her playing is the long ponytail, but I guess it will be okay since Troy Polamalu has been getting away with it for years.

Close to 200 metro Atlanta law men and women, administrators from various jurisdictions, members of clergy and civil rights organizations, along with high school and college students gathered Thursday afternoon inside the chambers of the DeKalb County School Board. They were there, according to DeKalb County Public Safety Director Dr. Cedric Alexander, “to address how individual entities were planning for incidents that may occur as a result of the grand jury decision in Ferguson, Missouri.” In addition he said the briefing “was to review how the region is collaborating to ensure metro Atlanta communities remain safe and are not negatively impacted by events that may unfold in Ferguson.”

The grand jury will determine whether or not criminal charges will be brought against white Ferguson police officer Darren Wilson in the August 9, 2014, shooting death of unarmed black teenager Michael Brown. The killing of Brown sparked protests in and outside of Ferguson, including Atlanta.

At Thursday’s planning meeting, held at the headquarters of the DeKalb County School District, Dr. Alexander called on individual representatives from city and county police departments, members of the civil rights and ministerial communities, as-well-as students from local high schools and colleges. They provided details as to how they are preparing for what could happen in their areas once the grand jury’s decision is announced.

Georgia State Patrol Captain Nikki Renfroe called the meeting “vitally important and very necessary in order to bring the community together with law enforcement and so many other entities.” Renfro adding, “this is the beginning of great dialogue and that’s what it takes in order to come to an understanding. We have to be able to come together and talk.”

Deputy Chief Ernest Finley, with the Atlanta Police Department said, “It’s all about engagement, enrichment, and also communication.” Following the meeting Findley said, “one message that we want to make clear is about peace and quality of life for everybody that choose to protest or choose to go to a route. We want to make sure that they’re safe and secure, but also we want to make sure that we give them that right and that opportunity to voice their concerns.”

DeKalb NAACP President John Evans said “they’re preparing themselves for whatever might come about. We are fired up and ready to go.” Asked about his message to the community, Evans said, “We have to protect our rights to peacefully protest. If something should happen to that, we have to have law enforcement and others involved. We just have to be ready, we have to know how to talk to people, and know how to quiet the conditions.”

DeKalb County Interim CEO Lee May called Thursday’s meeting “an opportunity to learn from what we saw in Ferguson, but also to prepare for whatever may come forward here in the Atlanta metro area.” Fire, police, and sheriffs were represented, along with school systems, clergy and civil rights organizations. May said, “it really reflects a coordination of efforts in preparation. We’re at the intersection now of public safety and politics when we bring in the question of how do we protect all citizens.”

Michael Thurmond, the DeKalb Schools Superintendent and host of the meeting, said, “Lives have been saved today. I think this will continue to resonate throughout the law enforcement community. We’re building bridges, we’re closing the gap, engaging the community in a positive way.” In his address to the gathering, Thurmond said that he has 45,000 potential Trayvon Martins and Michael Browns in his district each day. “We don’t want them to become another statistic”, said Thurmond. The DeKalb Superintendent added that’s the reason that he and other superintendents around metro Atlanta embraced the idea of such a meeting, saying “We want to protect our young men and young women. We don’t need another Ferguson, or another Trayvon and I’m going to do everything in my power to prevent it.”

Florida teenager Trayvon Martin was shot and killed, February 26, 2012, by a Sanford, Florida, neighborhood watchman named George Zimmerman. On July 13, 2013, Zimmerman was found not guilty of killing the 17 year old. The verdict sparked protests nationwide, including Atlanta.

Thurmond told me that what really impressed him about this week’s meeting was that there was “a commitment to protecting the right to protest, recognizing that there are concerns, there are issues, but at-the-same-time, saying that it must be done in a lawful way that respects life and property.” Thurmond added, “We are here together proactive, not just waiting, not reacting, but trying to actually solve the problem, trying to improve the relationship between law enforcement and our communities.”

Meeting organizer and moderator Dr. Alexander thought the meeting was “very important.” He said that he didn’t think that “historically anything of this magnitude has ever occurred in this community so I think that makes it very unique.” Alexander added “more importantly it wasn’t just a meeting to meet, there is effective communication going back and forth, sharing of communication, having access and contact with each other from our respective jurisdictions.

When I asked Dr. Alexander about his message to the public, he said, “Wait and see. Regardless of what you hear, do not attend to rumors and innuendo, wait for the grand jury’s ruling to come out of Ferguson, and whatever it is, we should conduct ourselves accordingly and in a professional manner.”

Whenever the grand jury decision is announced, local organizers say there will be rallies held at Underground Atlanta and at the Richard B. Russell Federal Building in Atlanta.

The hardcore legend Mick Foley opens up about a lifetime of injuries, healing with DDP Yoga, performing his one-man show, today’s WWE and helping out Santa in real life on the Turnbuckle Weekly with Chuck Carroll.

It’s great to have Mick Foley as a guest right back here on The Turnbuckle Weekly. Bang! Bang!

Excuse me for starting with a cheap pop, but we just get giddy whenever we have a hardcore legend on the show.

The exploits of Mrs. Foley’s baby boy in WWE, TNA and ECW have been well documented. I mean, who can forget watching the Undertaker throw him off the top of a cage and through a table 20 feet below.

As it turns out, he won’t ever be able to. Foley told me he feels the pain of a hardcore career each and every day as he rises out of bed.

“I do get around slowly. That was my fear when I was on RAW (a few weeks ago) that the limping would be so noticeable it would take away from the segment,” he said.

It didn’t.

“But you remember what the Godfather said about limpin’?” he asked me. “Limpin’ ain’t easy.”

Bang! Bang!

It’s that type of humor that Foley will bring to the Bell House in Brooklyn this Sunday when his one-man show goes head-to-head with the first free pay-per-view event in WWE history, as the company is giving away Survivor Series as part of a no cost November on their over-the-top network.

In another part of the interview, I confirmed there will be no coal in Foley’s stocking this year. The man has a heart of gold and is raising money for a Santa whose house burned down in real life. Foley is selling autographed Mr. Sockos at his appearances and donating the funds to Santa Vern.

Somewhere way on the right side of your globe, in the aorta of China, Manny Pacquiao will fight on Saturday, November 22. Pacquiao is so popular around the planet he can virtually toss a dart at an atlas and sell out the city. In this case it’s Macau, a rather foreign land, against an equally unknown fighter.

His opponent, Chris Algieri, is a man of much more modest means. Still living in his parents’ basement, drinking self-made smoothies, training in a local kickboxing gym, Algieri is the classic boxing contender, funneled from central casting. The New York native does his roadwork along the pastoral landscape of Long Island, down the mural of suburbia, cutgrass and clusters of two-family homes. Forgive the cliche, but he’s the local kid made good.

The only gap in his classic, pugilistic narrative is poverty. He didn’t come from the galling desperation of Grand Rapids or the cock-fighting capital of the Philippines. Not only was Algieri spawned by a loving family, he’s even got a master’s degree. While it’s hard to digest the purple cocktails he pours from his blender, his story is rather palatable. Handsome, articulate, cagy, and caucasian, America is ready to gobble him up.

Sadly, Manny Pacquiao is the roadblock between Algieri and stardom. In fact, the fight is turning into a sidebar, with new news swirling about the mega fight for which we’ve lusted for five years. It has Millions of us hoping Saturday is merely a preamble to a fight with Floyd Mayweather in 2015.

The two titans have tickled our boxing palate for years, mostly with Mayweather sidestepping the fight as deftly as he does a slow jab. Every time the two sides merged toward the ring, Mayweather made a new demand. And when Pacquiao acquiesced, Mayweather summoned another phantom hurdle.

But the negotiations have now reached the highest rungs of corporate America, with CBS boss Leslie Moonves throwing down on a possible deal. While Floyd Mayweather abhors his former front man, Bob Arum, who promotes Pacquiao, he evidently has great respect for Moonves.

Many who still savor the sweet science will say the new bump in interest is about three years, and a galling Pacquiao knockout, too late. But Pacman has risen physically and metaphysically off the canvas to show there’s ample life left in his legs and a few watts left in his gloves.

Whipping Brandon Rios, Timothy Bradley and, presumably, Algieri is more than proof positive that the media and the masses will still be moved by the idea of boxing’s two remaining monoliths meeting in the squared circle. And as each inches perilously close to retirement, it really is now or never.

Everyone knows that boxing is as dirty as it is barbaric. It’s the only sport that could be run by both Don King and Frankie Carbo. Those who aren’t corrupt are incompetent, as evidenced by the wretched decision awarded Bradley during his first fight with Pacquiao, who won at least nine of the twelve rounds.

If its own penchant for self-mutilation weren’t enough, you have team sports poaching the gifted, 200-plus pound athlete, thus gelding the showcase, heavyweight division. Big men can now get the same quid on the diamond, hardwood, or gridiron, and half the head trauma. The ancient boxing maxim says the sport is only as robust as the big boys. Using that metric, It’s no wonder we’ve lost exponential interest in the sport since Mike Tyson took his left hook and neuroses to Broadway.

It’s not fair to view Chris Algieri as little more than a bridge to Mayweather. He has earned this shot at Pacquiao by winning a recent fight literally with one eye open, the other swollen like a walnut, equal parts sweet science and science fiction. It was the perfect metaphor for the quintessential underdog, a young man who stumbled onto boxing while toiling as a champion kick boxer.

If he were fighting anyone but Pacquiao, who holds the keys to perhaps the last great bout boxing may ever see again, we could call for and hope for an Algieri upset. He’s younger, hungrier, and comically taller. But probably not good enough. Let’s say Manny in Macau, by late-round knockout.

Craig Ferguson knows you love his backside, and he doesn’t care! That’s how he introduced Metallica on the fourth night of their week-long residency on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson last night (November 20).

“Here, tonight, are a band who were the runner-up on American Idol!” he said, as frontman James Hetfield aimed his guitar, gun-style, at the host.

Now maybe how they got there was a little unothodox and depended on another team having a few really bad games, but they go there nonetheless.

The Jackets needed Duke, the Division leader most of the season, to lose not one but two of it’s last three games. The Blue Devils lost to the Hokies AND the Tarheels. Both games were at Duke… and they still lost.

So social media is blowing up this Friday morning with Yellow Jacket fans chanting “ACC Champs!”

To borrow an overused and overqouted phrase, “Not so fast my friend.”

The Yellow Jackets now have to face the Florida State Seminoles and Jameis Winston on December 6th, 2014 in Charlotte, NC.

That same Florida State team that hasn’t lost in two years and that very same quarterback that has NEVER lost.

Not that the Yellow Jackets can’t beat that Seminole team, Tech beat the Clemson Tigers and their #1 ranked nationally defense. That same Clemson team took Florida State to overtime.

So that match up on December 6th, if nothing else, will be a GOOD one.

Side note… Tech has clinched a spot in the ACC Championship game. If Tennessee can beat Missouri Saturday night the Dawgs will clinch a spot in the SEC Championship game.

Both teams representing the state in their respective conference championships.

How nice would that be?

Carl Edward Sanders was born in Augusta on May 25, 1925. He died in an Atlanta hospital on Sunday, November 16, 2014. He was 89.

When he was elected to the office of Governor in 1962, Sanders was the youngest to ever hold that position in Georgia. He was 37. He had been a quarterback on the University of Georgia football team. His studies were interrupted when, during World War II, he joined the Army Air Forces. After the war, he continued his studies at UGA graduating from law school in 1967.

In 1954, Sanders was elected to serve in the Georgia State House. In 1956, he was elected to the state Senate.

Congressman John Lewis described Sanders as one who “must be looked upon as one of the new governors of the south.” According to the Atlanta Representative, Sanders helped bring down the signs at the Georgia State Capitol that said whites and coloreds , “he helped desegregate the University of Georgia”, adds Lewis. He was so caring. He was elected at a time when the South was in transition.” But, Sanders’ progressive stance on segregation and race had its limits. He was in opposition to the 1964 Civil Rights Act. He also called it a “disgrace” when, in 1963, one of the first African American students at UGA, Charlayne Hunter Gault, married a white man.

Sanders left the Governor’s office in 1967 and went on to found a law firm. It is now known as Troutman Sanders LLP, and according to the company’s website, “has grown into an international firm with more than 600 attorneys. Sanders managed the firm for 25 years and continued to serve the firm as Chairman Emeritus and as a partner – who continued to come to the office most days until his death.”

The Oakland Raiders upset the Kansas City Chiefs last night 24-20 for their first win of the season. With the loss, the Chiefs (7-4) are no longer tied atop the AFC West with the Broncos. On a rainy night that made it difficult for both passing attacks, it was a stunning result.

Just one, baby

The Raiders (1-10) had gone more than a year and the equivalent of an entire season without a win. The streak is over. Veteran Charles Woodson, who was mic’d up and hyped up throughout the game, said afterwards, “I needed this win like I need to breathe. This whole organization needed this win tonight.” The relief for the players and rowdy Oakland fans was evident, especially since a 17-3 lead late in the third quarter had turned into a 20-17 deficit late in the fourth.

The final drive

Trailing by three with 9:03 remaining, Oakland embarked on an 80-yard, 17-play touchdown drive that lasted 7:21. The drive required a fourth-down conversion on a quarterback sneak by Derek Carr and was aided by a pass interference call on a long third down attempt. The final play was a nine-yard strike from Carr to James Jones, who made a nice out-and-up cut to separate himself from the defense. The pass protection gave Carr the time to use a subtle pump fake and wait for Jones to come open.

The last stand

On a third and six play during Kansas City’s final drive, Alex Smith was sacked near midfield with 43 seconds left by Sio Moore. The Raiders, led by Sio Moore, reacted as if they’d won the game. Apparently thinking it had been fourth down, Moore and some teammates raced nearly 20 yards away from the action to celebrate. Meanwhile, Smith prepared to take another snap and draw a penalty on Oakland. Fortunately for the Raiders, veteran Justin Tuck bailed out his younger, oblivious teammates by calling timeout before the snap. Smith’s next pass went out of bounds and the Raiders could celebrate properly.

Latavius

Latavius Murray had just 10 carries in Oakland’s first 10 games, but reports earlier this week indicated he’d be given a bigger role. Well, due to a concussion, he only had four attempts, but he made them count, tallying 112 yards and two touchdowns after replacing Darren McFadden on Oakland’s second drive. The Chiefs hadn’t allowed a rushing touchdown all season, but Murray’s second carry resulted in an 11-yard score. He gave Oakland a 14-0 lead when he zipped through the middle, used a brilliant jump cut to his left, and outran everyone for a 90-yard touchdown. His pure speed, especially on the wet field, was impressive. Murray was concussed on his next carry, midway through the second quarter, and did not return. Murray, drafted in the sixth round of the 2013 draft out of the University of Central Florida, spent all of last season on the injured reserve all of last season.

Ineligible receiver

No Chiefs player listed as a wide receiver has caught a touchdown pass this season. The Chiefs are the only NFL team with this distinction. A touchdown is worth six points no matter who scores, but when Smith finishes 20 of 36 for 234 yards—and those are his most passing yards since Week 4—it highlights the need for another receiving weapon. Dwayne Bowe has been on the decline the past few seasons, so Kansas City may want to target a receiver in next year’s draft.

1. Cosby Rape Allegations

Nearly a decade later, Bill Cosby is at the center of rape allegations again. Three women have come forward, alleging that the comedian raped them as far back as 45 years ago.  Joan Tarshis contends that Bill Cosby drugged and raped her in 1969 when she was 19 years-old on more than one occasion.

Barbara Bowman, another alleged victim, says that the comedian raped her in the mid-1980’s when she was an aspiring actress at age 17. In her words, Cosby “brainwashed me into viewing him as a father figure, and then assaulted me multiple times.”

Finally, model Janice Dickinson has also stated that she was sexually assaulted by Cosby in 1982 in Lake Tahoe, California.

Cosby has not commented on the allegations, going quiet or simply refusing to respond when asked in interviews. Cosby’s attorney on the other hand calls these allegations lies, but that has done little to keep his Netflix comedy special from being postponed and his new NBC show from halting development.

2. The Sexiest Man Alive

Many men were considered, but only one could win. People magazine has named Chris Hemsworth the “Sexiest Man Alive” of 2014, placing him on a long list of Hollywood hunks like Bradley Cooper, Ryan Reynolds, Brad Pitt, and George Clooney.

The 31 year-old actor is known for his lead role in Marvel’s “Thor” franchise, Formula One movie “Rush,” and brief appearance in “Star Trek.”

3. Solange Got Married

With little notice and little fanfare, Solange married video director Alan Ferguson in New Orleans. Solange wore a floor-length gown designed by Humberto Leon for Kenzo with an attached cape (yes, a cape).

The wedding wasn’t your typical wedding in any way with Solange and her husband riding in on bicycles, guests wearing all white attire, and Solange and her son Daniel Juelz having a dance-off to Rae Sremmurd’s “No Flex Zone.”

Many of those in attendance shared photos of the event, including Beyonce and Janelle Monae, detailing just how you plan the perfect wedding.

4. EGOT Dies At 83

Mike Nichols, one of the few people on this earth to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony (EGOT), passed away at age 83 on Wednesday evening.

The family, which includes wife Diane Sawyer, will hold a private ceremony.

5. Victoria’s Secret Must Love Taylor

“The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show” must really love Taylor Swift. The seven-time Grammy Award-winner will return to the runway to perform at this year’s fashion show, and she won’t be alone.

Joining Taylor Swift will be fellow pop star Ariana Grande, Swift’s close friend Ed Sheeran, and newcomer Hozier.

Let’s see if she can beat last year’s performance with Fall Out Boy.

The study analyzed information from over 138,000 U.S. adults between 2009 and 2011.

The researchers found that almost one in three adults was an excessive drinker because they usually participate in binge drinking on more than one occasion.  Bing drinking is defined as drinking alcoholic beverages with the primary intention of becoming intoxicated by heavy consumption of alcohol over a short period of time.

The study found that only about 10 percent of excessive drinkers are alcohol dependent.

The researchers also found that among the people who reported binge drinking 10 or more times in a month did not meet the criteria for alcohol dependency.

According to the CDC, excessive alcohol use led to approximately 88,000 deaths a year between 2006 and 2010.

“Although alcohol dependence is an important public health problem, these findings suggest that most excessive drinkers are unlikely to need addiction treatment,” the researchers wrote in their study.

The study was published in the journal Preventing Chronic Disease.

Mercy for Animals is a national non-profit organization dedicated to preventing cruelty to farmed animals and promoting compassionate food choices and policies.  They released an undercover video taken at a processing plant in Mississippi and at a slaughter house in Tennessee that is owned by Koch Foods.

The video shows workers kicking and throwing chickens into cages, cutting their heads off, and dropping them into vats of water while some still may be alive.

“The fact is if Chick-fil-A executives tortured even one dog or cat the way their suppliers do millions of chickens, the would be thrown in jail,” Matt Rice, the group’s director of investigation, told WGCL-TV. “This is sickening animal abuse that no company with morals should be involved in.”

Chick-fil-A told WGCL that they stopped using Kock Foods as a supplier.

“WE take the issue of animal welfare very seriously, and we only partner with only the very best suppliers in the U.S.,” Carrie Kurlander, Chick-fil-A’s vice president of public relations, said in a statement obtained by the station.  “All of our suppliers must comply with rigorous animal welfare requirements created and endorsed by the most respected industry groups an associations, including the National Chicken Council, United Egg Producers , National Pork Board, American Meat Institute, International Dairy Foods Association, and National Milk Producers Federation.”

Rice went on to say that there is no USDA regulation for chicken processors but he would like the group to push the USDA to issue requirements.

Four families will be spotlighted, including the Valenza-Gee, Hunt, Nolin, and Williams families.  Learn a little more about these truly amazing families and be sure to tune in to CBS’ “A Home for the Holidays” Friday, Dec. 19 at 9:00 PM, ET/PT.

The Valenza-Gee Family:

One parent of the Valenza-Gee family in Los Angeles became certified to adopt and received a call about 5-year-old Zack and his 4-year-old sister, Emmary.  The siblings were homeless and malnourished when they entered foster care. “They just stole my heart,” says father Rich. “After I adopted my children, I met Jared,” says Rich. “Rich and I became life partners and I fell in love with our kids the moment I met them,” says Jared Gee.

The Hunt Family:

Jennifer Hunt, of Los Angeles, had been a children’s book editor for 17 years when she decided to adopt.  “I was adopted as an infant, so I grew up with the sense that family are the people who open their arms to you.” Jennifer was matched with 17-year-old Josiah, who had been in foster care since age 2. “He had goals and dreams and really needed a parent to care and be there for him,” says Jennifer. Today, Josiah is a freshman in college studying 3D animation. “Without my mom, I wouldn’t be where I am now. She has shown me more love than anyone in my entire life,” he says. 

The Nolin Family:

The Nolin Family, of Birmingham, Alabama, originally considered international adoption, but things changed quickly for them. Just weeks before Christmas, the Nolins received a call about an emergency placement for a 12-year-old child who had been in foster care since age 3. “We fell in love with Heather the moment we saw her,” says Susan. “When I met my family, it felt like I was dreaming. I’d never had a real Christmas before,” says Heather. Today, Heather is a freshman in college studying early childhood education.

The Williams Family:

Kelly and Jared Williams, of Anaheim, had two biological sons before adopting their daughter, Mara, in 2006. “Being a parent was so rewarding, and our sons Drew and Jordan were very supportive of our decision to adopt,” says Jared. “We fell in love with Mara. Her situation was heartbreaking. She didn’t know how to speak because no one had talked to her,” says Kelly. Mara thrived in the care of the Williams family, and today is a talkative 12-year-old excelling in school.

Anderson, 6-2, 240 pounds, was originally selected by the Carolina Panthers in the third round (88^th overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft. He has played in 117 games with 69 starts in nine seasons while totaling 383 tackles with 12 sacks, three interceptions, and 23 passes defensed.

Anderson spent seven seasons with the Panthers before joining the Chicago Bears in 2013 where he started all 16 games totaling 84 tackles and four sacks.

He signed with the Tennessee Titans in September and saw action in seven games.

The Chesapeake, Virginia product started 28 of 53 games at Virginia Tech and totaled 218 tackles, seven sacks, two forced fumbles, three fumble recoveries, three interceptions and five passes defensed.

The Kansas City Chiefs are making their run right now.

They are coming off a huge win over the defending Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks, and they are looking at a confrontation with the Denver Broncos and Peyton Manning in Week 13.

But before they get to that showdown game, the Chiefs must take care of business against the winless Oakland Raiders. The Raiders are certainly hungry and have shown the ability to play competitively on defense this season, but they don’t appear to have the offensive firepower to contend with the Chiefs.

Head coach Andy Reid won’t let his team let up against the Raiders and blow an opportunity for a victory, and quarterback Alex Smith is too smart to take any opponent lightly.

Chiefs players

QB Alex Smith – The Chiefs and Smith are an excellent match because he is a sharp leader who can read defenses and make the right call at the last minute. However, that does not translate into fantasy points. The Chiefs have perhaps the least impressive crew of wide receivers in the league – stay away from Dwayne Bowe at all costs – and that does not give Smith many scoring opportunities. BENCH HIM

RB Jamaal Charles – The Chiefs have one of the most explosive running attacks in the league and Charles is a driven man. Not only does he want to make a run at Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray, he also has to hold off back-up running back Knile Davis. The Chiefs give Davis quite a few opportunities, and whenever he breaks into the open, you can be confident that Charles will come back with a long run of his own. Look for 125 yards and two touchdowns from Charles in this game. PLAY HIM

Chiefs defense – Kansas City has the top-ranked pass defense in the league, and pass rushers Justin Houston and Tamba Hali will be going full-speed after rookie quarterback Derek Carr all night. Look for this to produce five sacks and four turnovers, and the Chiefs will return one of them for a touchdown. PLAY THE KANSAS CITY DEFENSE

Raiders players

QB Derek Carr – While he appears to be in over his head against the Chiefs’ pass rush, Carr has played hard throughout the season and he has not become discouraged. That’s a tribute to his confidence and talent, and he will not back down here. However, Carr is not going to improve on his 13-9 TD-interception ratio. He may throw two TD passes, but he will throw at least two picks. BENCH HIM

WR Andre Holmes – Holmes is not the most consistent receiver, but when he does catch the ball he can make good things happen. Holmes has caught 27-419-4, and he has five receptions of 20 yards or more. The Chiefs are not going to double-cover him, and he just may break free in the fourth quarter after Kansas City has put this game away. Garbage-time touchdowns count. PLAY HIM

WR James Jones – Jones is the Raiders’ leading receiver with 49-498-3, but he does not have explosive speed. The Chiefs should have him blanketed tonight, and they will hold him to five catches or less for fewer than 50 yards, and he won’t get a sniff of the endzone. BENCH HIM

11: Is he really that nice?

100% yes. It’s become a running joke that he’s a half drunk diva because its the furthest from the truth. He is the true definition of a southern gentleman.

10: Will he sign autographs at Shulas 347 Grill (Home of The David Greene College Show)?

Yes and he loves it. Even when the autograph “hounds” give him a folder of stuff, he will sign everything without flinching. I asked if it bothers him that someone may put that signed helmet on Ebay and make money off it. Greenies response “no, my name isn’t worth anything.”

9: Does he go to every UGA home game?

No. He’s married with kids that are involved in soccer & baseball. If he does go, he said he’s in and out pretty quick. (Being a dad trumps tailgating.)

8: What is David doing now?

He works for Seacrest Partners. I’m still not 100% sure what that is, but this is directly from their website:

6: Why didn’t David make it in the NFL?

He says it was because he was “like a statue” in the pocket. His legs were not as fast as they should be.

Yes, but they are not BFF like people assume. They are buddies and touch base from time to time, but don’t text each other “goodnight” daily.

If you’re looking for an attractive and off-road-capable 7-seater that will also fit in your garage and pass a few gas stations, Nissan’s recently re-designed Pathfinder just might merit a good close look.

Up against Toyota’s Highlander, Chevy’s Traverse, KIA’s Sorrento and more, Nissan’s new Pathfinder can hold its own and then some in a very crowded field.

Power comes from a 3.5 liter V6 pumping out 260 HP….and rated at 20 city and 27 hwy mpg in two-wheel-drive form….all running through a user-friendly CVT that has built-in “feel” and downshift points. We tested the 4-wheel drive version rated just one mpg less.

Nissan’s 4X4 version has a rather unique feature. You, of course, can select full-time 4-wheel-drive for challenging conditions, but it also has an “auto” function….whereby the transmission can sense slippery conditions and shift to 4X4 mode…..and then automatically shift back to 2-wheel-drive for better mileage when conditions permit. Interesting. I expect the competition to copy this……someday.

Access to the third row is eased by a sliding second-row…and once back there, there’s actually enough room for adults….and there’s still 16 cu ft of storage behind the third row.

So while Nissan’s Pathfinder is a perfect “Mommy-Mobile”, it’s also equipped to handle boys and their toys. The Pathfinder has a 5,000 lb. towing capacity….so if you have a boat or a camper, the Pathfinder can handle some jobs that its’ competition just cannot.

You can get into a Pathfinder for just under 30k for an “S” model.

The “SV” is around $3,000 more…and will get you roof rails, a rear-view monitor, Bluetooth, and Nissan’s “Intelligent Key”….that can adjust your drivers’ seat, steering wheel, rear-view-mirror….all from your pocket.

And the “SL”…at another 3k more….brings leather, a power lift-gate, a 120 volt outlet, and remote start.

There’s countless SUV’s that can take 7 people to soccer practice.

The Camry is “friendly”. It’s a predictable, no-drama vehicle that you can count on to take care of you for years….if not decades. No surprises, in other words.

Camrys these days come in about as many flavors as does Baskin Robbins.

They’re all 4-doors with ample room for four…and decent room for five….and a trunk big enough to carry as much as most folks’ paychecks will allow them to buy.

The basic 4-cylinder with 6-speed auto delivers enough “go” to chirp the tires, and 25 city / 35 hwy mpg numbers…..all on regular gas.

It’s a quiet highway cruiser, too.

Toyota does interiors as well as, if not better than a number of their competitors.

Our test SE came with a two-tone perforated faux suede interior, with soft-touch surfaces covering all your major touch-points.. It’s attractive and looks like it’ll be long-lasting, too.

Toyota’s ’15 Camry, due out this fall, will be re-styled and injected with an additional dose of handling prowess….so say the early reviews.

So…if you want the very latest, it’s here now. But if you like the Camry just as it is….and millions do…..take advantage of the coming redesign and score yourself an above-average year-end deal on the ‘14’s. Either way you win.

7. Anthony Jennings/Brandon Harris – LSU

Luckily for LSU QBs the East has been so bad its allowed them to look better in the stats than they are. They throw the ball fewer times than any team in the Conference and are the only team with a below 50% completion percentage

6. Brandon Allen – Arkansas

Putting Allen 6th is as much the fact somebody had to be here as it is a reflection of how he’s played. He’s been 3-1 TD/INT rate which is good but he’s middle of the pack on everything else. He’s a guy who is improving every year and might be a sleeper in the SEC next year.

And here’s your Top 5:

5. Kenny Hill/Kyle Allen – Texas A&M

Hill came out of the box as a Heisman candidate with his 511 yds Wk 1 against So Carolina but as the competition got tougher the results faded to where after a suspension he was replaced by Allen. It’s a pass happy offense that will always put up stats but they’ve been arguably the most overrated team in the SEC.

4. Bo Wallace – Mississippi

When you’re a Senior QB in the SEC and you still have people labeling you “Good Bo” or “Bad Bo” that’s not good. Wallace has had good moments but still has those times when he just can’t get his team over the hump into that next level as many projected of him and his team. Good numbers to beat Alabama but turnovers that helped his team lose to LSU and Auburn…Yep…Good Bo…Bad Bo!

3. Nick Marshall – Auburn

People thought with Marshall coming back (the 1st time Gus Malzahn has coached a returning QB) Auburn’s offense would be even more unstoppable than the year before. Marshall has still at times been very good but his numbers are flat year over year and had a key turnover against Texas A&M that cost them the game.

2. Blake Sims – Alabama

The pleasant surprise of the year in the SEC. Many figured FSU transfer Jacob Coker would be the starter but players rallied around Sims and he’s gotten better as the season has worn on. He tied for fewest INTs in the Conference and has had an outstanding 6-1 TD/INT rate. Throwing to the best WR in America always helps but give Sims credit as over the last weeks he’s made plays with his arm AND legs to put Alabama once again in the National Title hunt.

1. Dak Prescott – Mississippi State

If you listen to me regularly then this “I told you so” moment won’t be so new…I told you back in July that Prescott would be at least the 2nd best QB in the Conference after showing flashes last year of how good his play was. Prescott has helped bring MS St into the National Title hunt by scoring more TDs than any player in the Conference. While his play the last few weeks has regressed with an increase in TOs there’s no denying that overall he’s been the best QB in the SEC and a potential Heisman invite.

Prosecutors in Atlanta say 57-year-old Daniel Lane of St. Louis, Missouri has been sentenced to 18 months in prison and three years of probation in the scheme. Investigators say Lane was the chief financial officer for Compass Healthcare Inc., which is based in Missouri and has offices in Atlanta and elsewhere.

Prosecutors say Lane was responsible for billing insurance companies for certain materials and he fraudulently set up the company’s billing system so that insurance providers would be billed for the most expensive items, regardless of what the company had actually used.

Authorities say Lane then worked with the company’s office manager and others to submit false claims to conceal the inflated charges.

Week 2 of the GHSA state football playoffs means round 2 for the majority of teams participating.There are, however, 16 first round games for class A Private and Public teams this week. While it may still be early in the high school post season , there are a number of match ups that would be worthy of the Georgia Dome. Remember the finals are 3 weeks away.

Dekalb’s Hallford Stadium will host the clash of AAAAAA titans when the Grayson Rams (10-1) make the drive down Hwy 78 to take on the Tucker Tigers (9-2).After surviving a tough test from Tift County last week Tucker now faces a Grayson defense that shutdown Mill Creek last week, and is led by a coach in Mickey Conn who has won it all before.

Bryan Lamar’s team has made their jump to the highest class look pretty easy. The key to victory is basic for Lamar who says, ” We must limit negative yardage plays offensively and play assignment football defensively.”

If you are looking for other great match ups around the metro area, check out Etowah at Westlake, Langston Hughes at Milton or McEachern at Alpharetta. Then there is the battle of the “Party Crashers”. Last week the Newton Rams went down to Valdosta and pulled off a major upset. What a place to get the first state football playoff win in school history. While Newton was taking down Valdosta, Central Gwinnett was surprising North Gwinnett. Todd Wofford’s Knights beat last years class AAAAAA runner-up with a back up quarterback. The “Party Crashers” will meet in Covington Friday night.

Other games to watch in the area include, Stephenson at Stockbridge, Burke County at Woodward Academy, Lamar County at GAC, Eastside at St. Pius, and Mary Persons at Buford.

Another game that could be worthy of the Dome comes in class AAAA, where defending state champion Griffin (11-0) will host Marist (10-1). Last week Alan Chadwick’s War Eagles jumped on Whitewater early in the game and never allowed the Wildcats to get back in. “We have to control the ball and try to keep it away from Griffin’s dynamic, explosive, big play offense”, Says Chadwick. “We will need to capitalize on our red zone opportunities. On defense, we will need to create some turnovers and it goes without saying that we need to score some points as Griffin is averaging over 45 points per game.”

The Griffin Bears pushed their season mark to a perfect 11-0 with a 46-12 win over Liberty County. Jarrett Laws’ team is riding a 26 game winning streak. The winner of this game will likely get Buford in the next round. With a win over Mary Persons, Buford would bring a 36 game winning streak into next week’s contest, but first things first.

Mark Richt Interview Questions: (most questions made it into the interview, not all)

Rick: Do you feel like your Dawgs are the best 2-loss team, and should you be ranked #8 in the college football playoff rankings?

Jamie: What do you think of the college football playoff process?

Rick: Is there any part of you that is envious of Kevin Sumlin and Jimbo Fisher for the way their autograph scandals were handled, in light of their players not missing a single game and your player missing four games, and potentially derailing a national championship?

Jamie: The NCAA recently ruled that Mo’ne Davis could accept money for being in a commercial and maintain her amateur status. Do you have any remorse about not being more aggressive with the NCAA in Todd Gurley case?

Rick: Have you second-guessed your decision to leave Todd Gurley in the Auburn game with 5-minutes left in a blow-out?

Jamie: What is it about your teams that there’s always 1 or 2 losses that can’t be explained? Can you pinpoint what’s happening?

Rick: Herschel Walker recently told 929 The Game that “it’s not all about football at UGA”. Do you have a burning desire to win a national championship or is it more important to win the right way, and accept that outcome, whatever it may be?

Jamie: Florida State is signing a more athletic QB. With the college game changing, moving away from the drop-back quarterback, why doesn’t Georgia take the best quarterback instead of one that fits the mold?

Rick: Do you ever feel pressure from within the UGA infrastructure, for example, from the president, AD, or boosters, to handle things differently with players who have committed a transgression?

DeKalb County officials planned to meet Thursday afternoon to discuss public safety with local police, education officials, students and clergy.

The Aug. 9 shooting of 18-year-old Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri, sparked weeks of protests and some unrest, including looting and rioting in that state.

In metro Atlanta, protests over the shooting have been peaceful.

However, the region has experienced race riots before. Atlanta police made more than 300 arrests during a riot in 1992 after police officers in Los Angeles were acquitted of beating Rodney King. Dozens of people in Atlanta were hospitalized.

Authorities say 36-year-old Michael J. Ellis of Decatur, Georgia was sentenced to eight years and five months in prison for stealing bank debit card numbers and passwords from people in Georgia and Florida by using an ATM skimming device. The devices are commonly attached to the area of an ATM where a user swipes their card.

Prosecutors say Ellis and his accomplices stole roughly $130,000 from bank customers by installing skimming devices on ATM machines at SunTrust branches. Authorities say the skimming device recorded users’ card numbers and a small camera fixed to the device also recorded users’ identification numbers.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety said Thursday that the Nissan Quest, Chrysler Town and Country, and Dodge Caravan all garnered the lowest rating on the small overlap front crash test, which replicates what happens when a vehicle’s front corner collides with another object at 40 miles per hour.

In each of those cases, the minivans’ structure collapsed from the force of the crash. In the Quest, both of the dummy’s legs were trapped and the air bag was shoved up into its face, the institute said. In the Town and Country, the dummy’s head slid off the air bag and hit the instrument panel.

The Toyota Sienna earned the second highest rating of “acceptable.” The institute said its structure was weak but the dummy was protected by its side air bags.

Only the Odyssey won a “good” rating. Its structure was damaged, but the dummy was protected from serious injury, the group said.

The Arlington, Virginia-based institute introduced the small overlap test in 2012. This was the first time a group of minivans was tested, and the institute said it was surprised to see some of the worst outcomes possible for this type of severe crash.

Minivans are at a disadvantage because they are wider than the car platforms they’re built on. That leaves large areas that are less able to absorb the force of a crash. Minivans are also heavier than cars, so the damage they inflict can be more severe.

One other minivan sold in the U.S., the Kia Sedona, has not yet been tested. Kia is making a change to the vehicle that should improve its performance, the institute said. It will be tested in a few weeks.

A statement from the Harris Penn Lowry law firm Wednesday said the settlement in a suit filed by the family of 27-year-old camera assistant Sarah Jones includes Unclaimed Freight Productions, Inc., Rayonier Fibers, LLC. and several others.

Jones was killed the first day of filming for a movie on musician Greg Allman in February and attorneys say the terms of the settlement are confidential.

The statement says CSX railroad and Meddin Studios are still listed as defendants.

Jones’ father, Richard Jones, says his family is continuing to advocate for safety on film sets through the Sarah Jones Film Foundation.

The Southeastern Raptor Center at Auburn University this week began the first of several auctions for the handcrafted items.

Al.com reports that the center in coming weeks will be auctioning off custom jesses — the cuffs worn around the eagle’s ankles and straps — and lures, which are used to entice the eagle to land at midfield. The items are painted by volunteers specifically for the game during which they’re used.

Janet McCoy, of Auburn’s College of Veterinary Medicine, said the center plans to auction items from all of this season’s home games. The starting bid for non-SEC game lures will be $200 while Southeastern Conference games will start at $500. Money raised will benefit the raptor center.

Robert Alan Black traveled to the UAE to speak at a conference on creative thinking and was arrested Oct. 21. It’s not clear what he took a photo of. A number of foreigners have been prosecuted by a state security court in recent years for taking pictures of subjects deemed prohibited by Emirati authorities, such as palaces or embassies.

Black’s stepdaughter, Jessica Beasley, said in an email Wednesday that the 70-year-old Athens, Georgia, native had returned to the United States.

One of Black’s friends, Rosemary Rein, previously told The Associated Press that Black is an architect and is an avid photographer of buildings.

The action Tuesday by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration covers driver’s side air bags equipped with inflators made by Takata Corp. of Japan. The inflators can erupt and send metal fragments into the passenger compartment.

Previously, cars with the inflators had been recalled only in regions with high humidity such as Gulf Coast states, Hawaii and Puerto Rico. Takata has said that prolonged exposure to moisture can cause the air bag propellant to burn faster than designed, causing the problem.

Up until now, about 8 million cars in the U.S. with Takata inflators have been recalled for problems with either the driver or passenger side air bag, or both. Another 4 million have been recalled outside the U.S. At least five deaths worldwide have been linked to the problem.

Safety regulators say Tuesday’s action is based on incidents involving a death in California and an injury in North Carolina where the air bags were implicated. Both states are outside of the area covered by the earlier recalls.

“One can be an anomaly. Two becomes a trend, and we feel we need to act,” said NHTSA Deputy Administrator David Friedman.

Takata said in a statement that it agrees the current recall should be expanded if the investigation it’s conducting with NHTSA determines there is a safety risk. But it said the current results indicate that a regional recall is appropriate. Takata said it has evaluated 1,000 driver and passenger inflators from outside the humid areas and none have ruptured.

“Takata is concerned that a national recall under these circumstances could potentially divert replacement air bags from where they’re needed, putting lives at risk,” the company said.

Lawmakers have pressured the government to expand the recall to all 50 states as reports of deaths and injuries emerged. While they’ll partly get their wish, the expanded recall won’t cover passenger air bags, at least not yet.

Also, car owners may run into a problem: a limited number of replacement parts. Takata is struggling to make enough replacement air bag inflators to handle the smaller regional recalls and likely will have trouble supplying demand for a nationwide recall. The company has promised to add two production lines by the start of next year to make more inflators, Friedman said on a conference call following the government’s recall statement.

Friedman said that if Takata and the automakers don’t agree to the recall quickly, the safety agency will use its legal powers to make sure the inflators are recalled. He also said Takata resisted moving to a nationwide recall Monday evening.

Takata didn’t respond to that charge in its statement, but the company said it “remains committed to addressing all safety issues promptly.”

On Thursday, lawmakers will hold a hearing to question Friedman, as well as representatives from Takata and the automakers, about their response to the air bag problem. And next week, millions of drivers across the U.S. will hop in their cars to travel for the busy Thanksgiving weekend.

The government’s demand for the national recall covers vehicles made by Ford, Honda, Chrysler, Mazda and BMW, generally from the 2008 model year and earlier. The owner of a 2007 Ford Mustang recently complained to the government about suffering a leg injury when an air bag malfunctioned in North Carolina.

Friedman said NHTSA is asking automakers for a complete list of vehicles with Takata inflators that are similar to the 2007 Mustang, and that information will be shared with the public when available. He did not know an exact number of vehicles involved.

Ford, Chrysler, Mazda and Honda said Tuesday that they’re working with NHTSA, but they wouldn’t say if they will expand their recalls. BMW said its recalls of Takata air bags already are national.

On Monday, The Associated Press reported that Honda was quietly fixing air bags across the nation if customers were concerned about their safety. So far, Honda has formally issued recalls in 13 states and territories.

For now, NHTSA isn’t demanding a national recall of Takata’s passenger side air bags, which have different inflators. The agency says it has been pushing the auto industry to do tests to make sure regional recalls cover all defective air bags. Friedman said that, so far, there have been no reports of passenger air bags rupturing outside the high-humidity areas.

However, the agency will require the automakers to set the same boundaries for regional recalls of passenger air bags.

Currently, some are recalling cars in Florida, Hawaii, the U.S. Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico, while others have larger zones. The agency wants all the recalls to cover those four areas, plus counties near the Gulf Coast in Texas, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, and Louisiana, as well as Guam, Saipan and American Samoa.

The company, in documents posted Wednesday by U.S. safety regulators, said it will start notifying customers this week that they can take their SUVs to dealers, who will replace faulty power window switches.

The recall of SUVs, mostly from the 2006 and 2007 model years, was announced June 30, but it took more than four months to get replacement parts ready. It covers the Chevrolet TrailBlazer, GMC Envoy, Buick Rainier, Isuzu Ascender and Saab 97-X, mainly in North America. It was the third recall for the same problem, but the first two didn’t work.

Water can get inside the window switch on the driver’s side, causing rust and possibly an electrical short circuit. That can cause them to overheat and catch fire, and it also can cause them to stop working or raise or lower themselves.

The problem was so serious that GM told customers to park the SUVs outside until they can be fixed, and the company ordered dealers to stop selling the SUVs as used vehicles until repairs are made. The switches could even malfunction with the vehicle parked and the key removed.

Letters that will be mailed out starting Thursday urge customers to contact dealers as soon as possible to make a service appointment. And yes, they still need to be parked outside until dealers replace the power window switch module. The work will be done for free.

GM received reports of at least 28 fires but no injuries. Earlier fixes by GM included a protective coating around the window switch circuit board, which is less costly than replacing the switches. But GM kept getting complaints about switches malfunctioning in repaired vehicles, so it decided to do another recall.

GM has recalled more than 30 million vehicles so far this year, including a major small-car ignition switch problem that has claimed at least 32 lives. The recalls came after the company conducted a review of unresolved safety issues.

Officials said in a statement Tuesday that the district has agreed to implement annual training sessions on religious and ethnic harassment as the result of a settlement that was reached in May 2013.

Department of Justice officials say the settlement stemmed from a case involving a Sikh student and the training will cover topics including post 9/11 harassment that fuels stereotypes impacting Sikhs, Muslims, Arab-Americans, and people of South Asian descent.

U.S. Attorney Sally Quillian Yates says she commends the district’s commitment to offering a safe and supportive environment for all students.

The discovery came when the company conducted their annual tire tests.

The three SUV tires that performed the worst are all manufactured in China, including the Pegasus Advanta SUV which seemed like a bargain at $95 a tire.

But Consumer Reports’ Jennifer Stockburger says the tires were the lowest performing among those they tested.

“These tires did not grip well in snow,” she said. “They were short in terms of tread life, when compared to the other models. And they made for a rough and noisy ride.”

API, the US-based company that owns the Pegasus brand, says it stopped using the Chinese factory that made the tires three years ago.

A letter from API’s chief operating officer says: “Many of our molds went missing … we have no idea who may have made these tires nor what they put in them.”

Consumer Reports bought the tires from the website Tires-easy.com. Its president says the tires came from an importer.

“We contacted the importer and several government agencies and unfortunately no one is really owning responsibility,” said Stockburger. “That leaves the consumer little recourse should something go wrong.”

Consumer Reports tested two other inexpensive SUV tires from China – the $85 Sunny and the $114 Geostar. They didn’t perform well in the snow and ice tests and scored much lower overall than the Consumer Reports top-rated SUV tire, the Michelin Latitude Tour, which costs $168.

The least expensive all-season SUV-truck tire Consumer Reports recommends is the $135 Conti Cross Contact L-X-20 EcoPlus. Consumer Reports also recommends the Michelin L-T-X M/S-2 for $190; Goodyear Assurance C-S TripleTred All-Season for $160; Pirelli Scorpion Verde All Season Plus, also $160; and Cooper Discoverer S-R-X for $157.

“Your tires are a key safety component of your car, which is why we always recommend that people go with the best performing tire they can afford,” counsels Stockburger.

As for those Pegasus Advanta SUV tires, so far the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration (NHTSA) has not gotten any complaints about them, and Consumer Reports has no information that would indicate the tire presents an immediate safety risk.
