An announcement could be a few weeks away, the report said. On Monday, Hewlett-Packard Co. announced its own plans to split, separating its personal computer and printer businesses from its corporate hardware and services units. Kristen Batch, a spokeswoman at Symantec declined to comment to Bloomberg. Shares of Symantec are down nearly 7% on a 12-month basis. 1:32 a.m. Today 1:32 a.m. Oct. 8, 2014 Hong Kong stocks fall following U.S. rout HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Hong Kong stocks opened significantly lower Wednesday morning after a sell-off in U.S. markets overnight, as the Hang Seng Index dropped 0.8%. Banks and tech stocks recorded broad declines, with several index heavyweights falling hard, including a 1.5% pullback for telecom giant China Mobile Ltd. slid 1.5%, and a 0.9% drop for online major Tencent Holdings Ltd. . Among financials, top underperformers in Hong Kong included Industrial & Commercial Bank of China Ltd. (down 1.4%), China Merchants Bank Co. (down 1.3%), Bank of Communications Co. (down 1.2%), and China Citic Bank Corp. (down 1%). Other heavy losers in the tech sector were online-game developer NetDragon Websoft Inc. , which retreated 2.5%, rival Boyaa Interactive International Ltd. , which fell 1.8%, and software developer Kingsoft Corp. , moving down 1.7%. Oil stocks also were weak as international crude prices fell, with offshore oil producer Cnooc Ltd. giving up 1.6%, PetroChina Co. pulling back 1.2%, and China Petroleum & Chemical Corp., or Sinopec, , trading 1% lower. However, mainland Chinese real-estate developer Greentown China Holdings Ltd. bucked the trend and advanced 1.4% after reporting a 28% increase in its contract sales for last month, compared to a year earlier. Rival Sunac China Holdings Ltd. also rose 0.5%, as its contract sales for the first nine months of this year jumped 33%.
