As a community, we rallied together in those early days and we can be proud of the role we played in changing the course of the disease. And we can do it again. According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), one in five of us - gay and bisexual men - in some of the largest U.S. cities are HIV positive, and half of those who are infected do not know it. And it will get worse if we don't act now. Men who have sex with men are the only group for which HIV is on the rise. So, what's holding us back? We know how to prevent HIV (use condoms) and we know if we are positive finding out and getting care is critical to our own health and protecting those we love.
