Open mics don't promise riches or fame, but I found all I'd hoped to find

By Matt Smith | The Express-Times

After 12 weeks, with hundreds of miles driven through six counties, it is apparent that there is a wealth of young talented singers, guitarists, percussionists and lyricists throughout the region as well as great venues in which they can truly thrive. During my travels, I met hosts who were passionate, supportive, and connected to the larger music scene. All were able to give guidance to young musicians through what they themselves have learned from the process.
