The fridge is nearly empty, but you're in no mood to get in the car and go grocery shopping. What do you do? Give up and call out for some pizza? Starve? Passed down through the generations, this sandwich has saved countless hungry men from ordering yet another boring pizza. Will it get you on a fancy cooking show like Knife Fight ? No, it will not. Does that matter? No, it does not. The sandwich is designed to be made easily and provide enough nutrition to carry you on until you can make a trip to the grocery. Here's the ingredients: White bread Peanut butter Nutella 1 banana 2 slices of bacon Butter Now head on over to The Art of Manliness and learn how to make it. Tags: The Curator Permalink Treat Yourself to Some Granita Posted August 7, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez There is no one on this planet that does not enjoy some Coffee Granita. The Italian dessert is simply a joy to both coffee addicts and dessert lovers alike. The semi-frozen delight is loosley related to the ever popular sorbet and italian ice. However, this treat is much more coarse and has a crystal-like texture that leaves a rough, but splendid taste on the tounge. This coarse texture makes the Granita a unique dessert that you would expect to find on Knife Fight or any other top cooking show. Pair this rough dessert with some coffee flavoring and you have caffeinated heaven. How do you make this delicious ice masterpiece? Esquire has the recipe on their page, but lets take a look at the ingredients before anything else. 2/3 cup of superfine sugar 6 1/4 cups of coffee 1 cup of whipping or heavy creme And that's it! Now, head over to Esquire to see how you turn this simple list of ingredients into a fantastic dessert. Tags: The Curator Permalink Ditch the Family Vacation Posted August 6, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez Admit it: you are getting tired of the same ol' vacation. How many times do you have to go on a cruise before you get sick of it all? Think of all of those people wandering around in a drunken stupor with way too much sunscreen on. Ick. Well, don't worry any longer, because your savior has arrived. Epic Road is a company that specializes in trips that are anything but your typical family vacation. Founded by a group of philanthropists, the company creates trips packed with adventure and life-altering experiences. Their latest expedition, an afircan safari, is completley mind-blowing. Really, this trip should be featured on The Getaway. What makes it so speical? Well, for one, the trip allows you to go bow and arrow hunting with a Hazadabe tribe. Not exciting enough? How about some mountain bike riding alongside a group of migrating giraffe? Maybe you would prefer to geo-tag a shark and help a local research group? Epic Road offers all of these experiences with unparralled luxury accomedations, including tents that include queen-sized beds and other amenities. Tags: The Curator Permalink A Salad From Sicily Posted August 2, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez The golden coasts of Italy are home to many things, but nothing tops the delicious food that comes from the meditarrian paradise known as Sicily. Case in point: the Insalata Di Arance. This delicious salad is both unbelievably tasty and easy on the belt. The best part? You can make this tasty dish in less than 15 minutes. Composed of a variety of fruit and a few onions, the Insalata Di Arance is perfect for a quick dish for guests. Serve this little dish and you'll be hailed as the next winning chef on Knife Fight. OK, maybe you won't make it to Knife Fight, but your friends will definitely start coming over frequently. Here's a quick list of ingredients: 3-4 fennel bulbs 8 oranges 1 cup roasted olives The dressing: 5 tablespoons of olive oil Juice of 1/2 lemon 2 tablespoons chopped flat-leaf parsley Reserved fennel fronds 1 tablespoon of fennel seeds Salt and pepper Head on over to Esquire for the full recipe. Tags: The Curator Permalink ADVERTISEMENT A Zip-line Adventure Posted August 1, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez So you want to go on a vacation, but you don't want to limit yourself to boring sight-seeing tours? How about a traversing 1.5 miles of zip-lines atop a 2,200 foot mountain summit? That's exactly what you'll get when you take a trip with Ziptours , a specialized vacation that has you traveling across Gunstock Mountain and the surronding forest area. Trust me, this isn't something you'd find on The Getaway TV show. Ziptours includes a course of five ziplines, which will take you on a breathtaking trip while being suspended 140 feet off the ground. Oh, and you'll be traveling at a average speed of 65 mph. But the fun doesn't stop there. You'll also be able to explore an aerial treetop obstacle course, and leap from mountaintop while fastened to a bungee cord. Plus, you can enjoy your typical outdoor activites, including mountain biking, camping, hiking, and off-road Segway expeditions. Tags: The Curator Permalink It's Time For Some Texas Chili Posted July 31, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez Texas is famous for three things: cowboys, The Alamo, and chili. Yes, I'm sure there are more things that texans love to brag about, but nothing comes close to their world-famous chili recipes. It's no suprise that the largest state in the nation is also widely regarded as the go-to destination for chili and barbeque. But the real question is: can you cook it? I'm happy to report that you can and its relativley easy. In fact, you don't even need to be an experienced Knife Fight chef to cook it. Just check out this recipe from the food connoisseurs at Esqurie and you'll be ready to cook this thing in no time at all. Here's what you'll need: 2 1bs of ground meat 1 8oz can of "El Pato" tomato sauce 1 15 oz. can of beer broth 1 tbsp of onion powder 2tbsp of garlic pwder 2 tsp of beef crystals 1 tsp of chicken crystals 1 tbsp Pacific Beauty Paprika 1 tbsp of Mexene Chili Powder 1 tbsp of Mexene Chili Powder 1 tbsp of Hatch Mild Chili Powder 2 tbsp of Cowtown Light chili powder 1 tbsp of Mild Bills dark chili powder 1 tsp cumin 1/4 tsp white pepper You can find the rest of the ingredients at Esquire! Tags: The Curator Permalink The Final Moments of Karl Brant Posted July 31, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez What if you could talk to a person after they were murdered? That's the concept of this short film,"The Final Moments of Karl Brant," starring actor Paul Reuben. The story follows a young researcher who is brutally murdered while working on a mysterious device that allows him to upload his conscience. The short turns the traditional murder mystery genre on its head when two police officers assigned to his murder end up interviewing the man himself. I won't spoil anything, but you should definitely watch this one until the very end. Permalink A Backyard Vacation Posted July 30, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez You don't always have to go on a vacation to escape the busy city life. Why not build your own retreat in the comfort of your backyard? The Bunkie house is the perfect alternative to a "man cave" or guest house and measure at a mere 8.5' wide x 12.5' deep. It's interior can be used as an office, guest house, or a personal vacation home worthy of a Getaway episode. These little houses are truly a minalmalists dream. The small, but not cramped cottages can hold a queen sized Murphy bed, a small dining set with chairs, a series of shelves, and an ethanol fireplace. The only problem? The cottage must be contructed by the Bunkie team and it can take anywhere from 1-2 days. Honestly, it's a small price to pay for your very own personal retreat. So what are you waiting for? It's time to get out there and build your vacation home. Tags: The Curator Permalink The Best Oyster Stew Posted July 25, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez I've never had oyster stew in my life. Honestly, I never even planned on ever having oyster stew. The hard-shelled creature has never looked that appetizing to me. So, it's a little surprising that I suddenly have a craving for all things oyster after reading this amazing recipe from Esquire . Trust me, this delicous stew will make anyone an oyster convert . The ingredients are relativley simple, and don't call for anything too exotic (I'm looking at you, Knife Fight ). Don't worry, a little searching at the grocery store should get you on track and ready to cook the best stew of your life. So, what are you waiting for? Check out this ingredients list and get ready for a kick in the tastebuds, courtesy of the American South. Here's what you'll need: 3 tbsp of dark-roasted sesame or benne seeds 1 1/2 cups of chicken stock 2 sliced of smoked bacon 1/4-inch dice 1/4 cup of Vidalia 1/2 tsp of garlic, minced 2 tbsp of mixed red, green, or yellow bell peppers 1/4 cup of heavy whipping cream 1 pint of fresh shucked oysters 2 tbsp of fresh basil Tags: The Curator Permalink A Carless Vacation Posted July 24, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez The bicyle culture has grown exponetially over the past decade. A hobby that began as a simple way to get aroudn town has turned into a vibrant culture of bicycle enthusiasts. So it is of no surprise that a vacation company has come up with a way to cater to those who love traveling on two wheels. Trek Travel is a company that creates customized bike vacations in the 50 states. All of these plans include bookings at boutique hotels, tour guides, and vehicles for luggage transportation. The adventure also continues off-road. A plethora of off-road activites are also bundled in the vacation package, including kayaking, sightseeing, vineyard tours, and more. Now, this is something that I can imagine seeing on an episode of The Getaway . In a world where we spend a majority of our time in a car, why not take a weekend to enjoy the sights from outside a metal box? Tags: The Curator Permalink ADVERTISEMENT Return of the Meatball Posted July 22, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez You can't have spaghetti without a full dish of metaballs. A favorite amongst families and bachelors alike, the meatball has been around for decades and is a staple in American cuisine. This also leads to bland meatball dishes and uninspired spaghetti plates. Thankfully, the gentlemen at Esquire have come to the rescue with the most delicious meatball recipe to-date. Trust me, your friends will think that a Knife Fight chef created this masterpiece. What do you need to get started? I'm glad you asked. Let's take a look: 1 lb ground beef 1 lb ground pork 1 lb ground veal 1 lb pancetta or thick-sliced smoky bacon, finely minced 2 eggs 1/3 cup of finely grated Parmigiano-Reggiano 1/2 cup finely diced yellow onion 8 garlic cloves 1/4 cup finely chopped flat-leaf parsley 2 tbsp chopped oregano 2 tbsp chopped rosemary 1/2 cup unseasoned bread crumbs 4 oz whole milk 1 tsp coarse salt 1 1/2 tsp of ground black pepper Tags: The Curator Permalink Par For The Course Posted July 18, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez Golf is a boring sport. But that doesn't mean that it can't be a little more exciting when paired with a luxrious vacation. Thankfully, Kalos Golf is here to revive the pastime by offering a 12 -day, all-inclusive tour of New Zeland's most beautiful courses. Not exactly something you would see on a TV show like The Getaway , but we wouldn't be surprised if we saw a celebrity on these greens. The trip starts on a 44-seat private jet, which offers breathtaking views as you travel above the New Zealand landscape and complimentary drinks. Upon landing you'll be treated to some of the most beautiful courses in the world, including the Kauri Cliffs, which is surrounded by Pacific Ocean hazards at every turn. Or you could sit back on the more relaxed Cape Kidnappers course and it's perfectly cut greens. Tired? Too bad, because the fun doesn't stop at the golf course. After the tour you will be wisked away to a wine farm and a jet-boat adventure. Pack your clubs. Tags: The Curator Permalink Don't Forget the Pulled Pork Sandwich Posted July 17, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez Pork is a meat that has been long neglected. For years the other meat has remained in the shadow of hamburgers, steaks, and other offerings of the red variety. But no longer will the pork recipes go unoticed. Ladies and gentlemen, I bring you the glorious pulled pork sandwich. This amazing recipe from Esquire won't get you on Knife Fight , but it will have your friends begging you to come over every night for dinner. That's right, pork tastes great and has the power to improve your social life. But how do you make this glorious sandwich? Let's take a look at the ingredients: 1/4 cup of dark brown sugar 2 tbsp of salt 2 tbsp paprika 1 tbsp ground black pepper 1/2 ground coriander 1/2 tsp dry mustard 1/2 tsp onion powder 1 boneless pork butt 1 1/2 cups of apple juice 1/2 cup water 1 package plain soft white rolls or other bread See that? Not that impossible to make. Tags: The Curator Permalink The Manliest Vacation Posted July 16, 2013 - By Antonio Hernandez OK, so it's not exactly a vacation, but the " Man Games " is something that any athlete would consider a relaxing day. Did I say relaxing? Sorry, I meant absolutely brutal and awesome. This isn't something that you'd see featured on a TV show like The Getaway , but that doesn't mean it won't help relieve some of that work-day stress. "The Man Games" is a national competition series composed of 12 challenges that will challenge those who call themselves "hardcore." What kind of challenges? Well, how about a 200 yard sprint through an obstacle course compsoed of ice & fire? Oh, and that's just the warmup. Other challenges include an all-out paintball war, chasing a pig through a knee-deep mud pool, and being launched through the air via a human slingshot. Yes, I said slingshot. The pricing is relativley cheap and you're guarnteed to at least do something that you've only dreamt of while watching a Die Hard marathon. So return those plane tickets to Paris, sweetheart. It's time to get out there and take a real vacation.
