In addition to entertainment commentary by our witty writers, we bring exclusive celebrity interviews, hot photo shoots, film reviews, TV recaps, original video and more. Started in 2005 as AfterElton, a site for gay men interested in mainstream entertainment, the site has evolved into a welcoming venue for both gay male and straight female readers alike – in fact our audience is roughly 60% male / 40% female. A common thread for the site’s many fans is an appreciation for the male form – a.k.a. we’re all very “guy curious.” Proof of that is our annual, hugely popular Hot100 contest – featuring the sexiest, most buzz-worthy male celebrities of any stripe . Essential to TheBacklot’s success is its strong reputation in the entertainment industry as a reputable site run by real journalists, conducting insightful, factually correct interviews – all of which means actors, publicists, managers, TV studios, film companies trust it as a place to connect with online fandom. In the past year alone the site has run print or video interviews with Darren Criss, Matt Bomer, Brad Goreski, Madeleine Stowe, Dustin Lance Black, Josh Hutcherson, Kathy Griffin, The Vampire Diaries cast, Cat Deeley, the cast of Teen Wolf and many more. The site also features entertainment editor Louis Virtel’s popular weekly web series Weeklings ! And we connect with large online fandoms with our recaps of some of TV’s most buzzworthy shows, from Glee to American Horror Story to Game of Thrones to True Blood.
