By offering employee engagement opportunities, coupled with financial and in-kind contributions, Paramount supports numerous local, national, and global non-profit organizations. 07/11/2014 Viacommunity Day 2014 On Friday, May 16, 2014, Paramount Pictures celebrated its nineteenth year of giving back on Viacommunity Day, named after Paramount’s parent company, the company’s annual day of community service. This year, more than 1,400 Paramount employees in fifteen countries joined together to make a difference in their communities by volunteering at local schools, parks, and nonprofit organizations across the globe. Members of the Paramount Volunteer Crew give thousands of hours to projects throughout our community. These projects range from serving meals at the Ronald McDonald House to helping students complete their FAFSA(financial aid) forms; from cheering on athletes at the Special Olympics to picking up trash and leaves in a neighboring community garden. Last year, the studio partnered with Padres Contra El Cancer, dedicated to improving the quality of life for children with cancer and their families. Employees were able to read wish lists and “adopt” a child or family in need. Category: Volunteerism Read more about The Season of Giving 07/11/2014 Paramount Honors National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day In honor of National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, Paramount Pictures teamed up with MAC Cosmetics to give back and get glam! In March, employees making a donation to AIDS Project Los Angeles received a custom "lip-over" by a professional MAC makeup artist and complimentary lipstick from MAC’s Viva Glam collection, which benefits Keep A Child Alive. The organization provides access to life-saving HIV treatment and care, nutritious food, and loving care for children and families living with and affected by HIV in Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, Uganda and India. The studio was home to the very first AIDS Walk in 1985 and has been a proud sponsor ever since. Each year, employees join to form a team for the event. The 2013 team was the largest yet, with 150+ members raising $37,000. This annual event raises funds to help continue the life-saving work of AIDS Project Los Angeles and many other worthy HIV/AIDS organizations. This eight-day bike journey from San Francisco to Los Angeles includes more than 3,000 cyclists and roadies who ride to raise money to benefit the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles Gay and Lesbian Center. Our volunteers staffed the Finish Line Festival and Closing Ceremony and cheered the cyclists as they completed the race. The E-Waste Drive raises green awareness and offers employees an easy way to recycle their own electronics. In June, employees recycled phones, DVD players, VCRS, televisions, cameras and computers, totaling 2,000 pounds. These charging stations are available for use 24 hours a day/7 days a week and open to all Paramount Pictures’ employees and guests. Why drive electric? Electric vehicles emit few to zero emissions while driving on battery power. Students start the morning with an orientation focused on business etiquette and then may join their Paramount mentors for meetings, conference calls, presentations and other work-related activities. Students also attend sessions led by various Paramount executives on topics of interest. The day ends with a luncheon at which each student is asked to make a 2-minute presentation about lessons learned while “on the jo Category: Education Read more about Job Shadow Day 07/11/2014 Mentees Celebrate the Season of Giving Paramount's mentoring programs at both Le Conte Middle and Helen Bernstein High Schools celebrated the holidays with unique sessions. Mentors and mentees at Le Conte Middle School held a multicultural holiday celebration, learning about holidays including Diwali, Chinese New Year, Ramadan, Kwanzaa and more. Using this new knowledge, they were then challenged to work in small teams to create and present their own new cultures.
