That’s when a young idealist called Rob Glaser left Microsoft to start up his own culturally progressive, socially conscious media company: Progressive Networks. Our first product – RealAudio – made history when it was used to broadcast the first ever live event over the internet (a baseball match between the Yankees and Mariners). And our second product, RealVideo, gave people the power to stream online videos. Now Today, RealPlayer Cloud does things we could never have dreamed of back then. We have apps for all the major devices, so you can watch whatever you want, whenever and wherever you want. Our PC software alone has been downloaded over 400 million times – and it’s been mentioned in both The Simpsons and Family Guy (you can’t get much more famous than that). Our name’s changed, but our ethos hasn’t. We still give 5% of our annual profits to charity ever year (that’s more than $28 million since 2000). Our team London RealNetworks HQ is in Seattle, but the team behind this website all live, work and play in London – even though we come from as far afield as Australia to Zimbabwe (and everywhere in-between). Deep down, we’re all techies at heart. But there’s more to us than that. True, some of us prefer to spend our spare time holed up in our bedroom playing video games (Tom) or down the cinema (Adeniyi – 200 films in the last four years). But we’ve also got champion synchronised swimmers (Venetia) snowboarders (Jessica), and air guitarists (Magda) on our team.
