It's a movie decades in the making—a tale of intergalactic warfare where the good guys are kids and the bad guys are bugs. And Harrison Ford is in it too.

The iconic actor, along with Asa Butterfield, Abigail Breslin and Hailee Steinfeld, headline this first-ever big-screen adaptation of "Ender's Game," which hits theaters today. It's the story of a precocious youngster (Asa), who is drafted into an army of children groomed to fight mankind's greatest enemy using their tactical wit and some super-high-tech video games.

Before you ship off to theaters to get swept up in this interstellar adventure, here are five bits of basic training.

At first, this EXCLUSIVE clip from soon-to-be-released movie "How I Live Now" looks like just another cozy camping scene in the English countryside...even if there is a semi-automatic weapon lying on the floor beside the sleeping children in their ramshackle blanket fort. But don't get too comfortable, y'all: As one of the recently wakened kids peeks out the door in the cold morning light, SHIZZ GOES CRAZY. And crazy it will remain, because this is just a wee taste of the action and excitement in store when this film hits theaters next Friday!

Based on the novel by Meg Rosoff, "How I Live Now" stars Saoirse Ronan as Daisy, a teen who's reluctantly left the U.S. to spend her summer vacation with distant family in a remote English village. But just when she's starting to enjoy her idyllic retreat to the countryside, the getaway goes from dream vacation to bullet-riddled nightmare, as a massive global war suddenly breaks out and turns friendly old England into a very dangerous place for an American girl. With disastrous consequences guaranteed if she's discovered, Daisy is forced to run and hide, and to put her trust in the few people who are willing to keep her safe.

Confession: When a YA novel is being brought to the big screen, we don't usually get all hot and bothered over who's gonna be the dad, y'know? But then again, most YA novel dads aren't adorable, scruffy, pipe-smoking former punk rockers like the one in "If I Stay"—and they don't get played by fairly crushworthy actors with cute beards like Joshua Leonard. So, yeah, we're a little excited over the announcement from Deadline this morning that Joshua has been tapped to play Denny Hall, father to main character Mia, in the movie adaptation of Gayle Forman's book.

For the uninitiated, "If I Stay" is the story of Mia, who is the only one to survive a car accident that kills both her parents and her brother. Caught in a state of comatose limbo, she's faced with a choice: to return to the land of the living, or to just let go. (Or in other words, it's great that Joshua has joined the cast, but all things considered, we probably won't be seeing much of him.)

If you were one of the "Mortal Instruments" fans who was devastated by the news that production was halting on "City of Ashes" with no concrete plans to start again, now is the time to dry your little eyes and be joyous: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Constantin Films is back on board with plans to move ahead on the sequel! Yaaaay! Clearly, our campaign of standing outside the homes of the studio's major executives and hysterically sobbing whilst clutching a life-sized stuffed Jace Wayland doll has paid off in a big way.

Per the report, Constantin will relaunch production on the second film in the series next year, while using the last few months of 2013 to analyze why and how the first movie didn't do as well as they'd hoped. (Among the problems: Apparently, nobody realized that the "Mortal Instruments" fandom isn't entirely under the age of 18—which, as the adult editors of this blog and their life-sized stuffed Jace can attest, is obviously a Thing.)

Poor, poor Carrie White. So misunderstood. So bullied. So telekinetically tormented...and of course, so creepy beyond all human comprehension! It's what makes her such a proud member of the horror genre's best and most elite group: The Society of Freaky Girls Who Do Very Bad Things.

In honor of the release of "Carrie" this week, we're showcasing a few more scary chicks from horror flicks who have captured a little piece of our heart (or, uh, other body parts) over the years. Read on for a list of ladies who, when pushed to their limits, are anything but sugar and spice.

It has been almost 20 years since our fave star-crossed lovers whispered sweet nothings to each other in iambic pentameter on the silver screen.
