Should the Church have secrets?
The announcement that the upcoming Synod of Bishops of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church would be held in secret once again raises the question of whether secrecy in the Church is a good thing or not. In fact, one of the themes of the journalism conference to be held in Lviv on October 20 is “transparency” in the Church.

Ranking Influence and People of the Church
The ranking of the most influential people is much more subjective than the ranking of, say, rich people. Influence cannot always be measured in money nor can it be tied to a step in the hierarchical ladder – in the ranking of the one hundred most influential Ukrainians by the magazine Korrespondent rich people sometimes are outranked by less rich people, and a minister may be outranked by a vice prime minister.

Mere Politics
Recently the prominent historian Iaroslav Hrytsak, who specializes in modern Ukrainian political history, called for a renewal of the Left (“Pro potrebu novoi livytsi,” gazeta.ua, 15 June 2012). Since the old Left has joined the “party of power,” he reasons, while the opposition does not present a clear alternative, there is no genuine Left left.

Christian physicians’ conference gathers over 400 participants from 20 countries
Questions participants discussed at the international Christian scientific and practical conference that took place in Ternopil on October 29-30. It was attended by over 400 delegates, including medical students from Ukraine and foreigners who are studying in Ukraine, as well as speakers from the UK, USA, Canada, Netherlands, Serbia, Russia and Poland.

Marketsquare Europe – 2011 opened Ukraine to European Christian Publishers
For the first time Ukraine hosted the European Forum of Christian Book Publishers and Booksellers Marketsquare Europe 2011. These professional meetings are held annually in different countries of Europe at the time of the International Book Fair in Frankfurt. Participants in this year’s forum, held in Irpin near Kyiv, were publishers and booksellers from Ukraine, Russia, Belarus, Moldova, Hungary, Poland, France, Great Britain and the United States.

Orthodox priest founded skydiving club for children
A priest from Pohrebyshche, Vinnytsia Oblast, organized a school for parachuting. He recruits children. First, together with instructors from the Parachute Unit of the Vinnytsia Aviation Club, he teaches them the theory, then the children go through practical training, and finally, they skydive.

Media Mobolization Gathered Christian Journalists from All Over Ukraine
The Media Mobilization conference of journalists, bloggers, Internet activists, and workers of church press services has come to an end. The number of participants was twofold of what the organizers’ expected: instead of 120 delegates, over 200 people came to the conference. And not only Ukrainians showed interested in this event – participants from Russia, Germany, and Kazakhstan joined the conference.

Religious literature was presented on Lviv's Forum of Publishers
At this year’s Forum of Publishers, which was held in Lviv from 16 to 19 September, religious literature was duly represented among other editions. It was primarily thanks to “Svichado” Publishers who drew the attention of the whole Ukraine to its new edition, a book “Sex which you do not know. For God-loving married couples by a capuchin monk from Poland, Ksaverii Knots. The author of the sensational new edition became an honorary guest of the Forum of Publishers and talked to a full house at his presentation. But the religious literature was duly presented at the forum not only by “Svichado.” Natalia YURAKH prepared a review of religious publishing houses which participated in the forum.
