That is why biosecurity on pig farms is one of the most serious challenges of the modern pig production. Alex Ramirez is sure that the list of biosecurity measures differs from enterprise to enterprise as each farm has its own peculiarities. But there are common measures of prevention and eradication of diseases. The effective enterprise starts with an employee taking his work as his own business. 16 .08.2012 17:47:07 є 3Т2012 (09) Focus I’ve heard Mr. Getman’s addresses at various seminars and forums on pig production repeatedly. My attention was always pulled by his deep knowledge in almost each aspect of that concerning growing pigs irrespective of what it comes to: equipment, food and feeding, genetics and economics of production or management of staff. That’s unbelievable it wasn’t an agricultural university he graduated from. But the very fact he got five certificates for his developments having appeared in his diploma thesis may give us some insights: Volodymyr Getman is an innovator and a searcher by nature. A deal of technological innovations has come into life and become popular among Ukrainian pig production enterprises owing to his successful initiative. We got closer meanwhile our training course in pig production in USA in terms of program «Cochrane». So long as a significant part of the advanced technologies of pig production of USA we were demonstrated has been already brought into use in «Dnipro-Gibryd» I just couldn’t avoid the occasion to visit his enterprise. Ethanol boom 16 .08.2012 13:57:29 є 3Т2012 (09) Management and economics Under the circumstances of steady price increase for oil and oil products renewable sources of energy keep attracting more and more interest, biofuel in particular. A contribution to agricultural sector is among its many advantages. A group of Ukrainian farmers received an opportunity to visit a plant «Linkolnway energy» during their business trip to the USA in terms to the exchange program «Kochrane» organized by USDA. Drinking bowls for adults 16 .08.2012 13:38:57 є 3Т2012 (09) Technologies Ч Equipment Mariya Yarishko master MBA Water is of essential importance for all organs of the animal as it is responsible for thermoregulation, absorption of nutrients, secretory function and the tissue growth. Note, water comprises 80% of newborn piglets’ body and 55% of a finishers’. The long absence of water may be fatal for animals. Even a slight dehydration can be a reason of worse feed intake, as well as its bad conversion, small daily gains, decrease of milk production in lactating sows and smaller weights of weaners. But the reasons of bad production date are looked for in feeds. The prospects of the usage of cryogenically preserved semen 16 .08.2012 12:05:10 є 3Т2012 (09) Technologies Ч Reproduction Almost twenty years ago most pig producers bought live boars for mating with sows. With the branch development that way paled into insignificance and in in terms of modern pig production artificial insemination is not a surprise to anyone. But pig producers are very cautious to cryogenically preserved semen usage. A group of Ukrainian pig producers visited a company Swine Genetics International in terms of training program Cochran Fellowship Program (USA). The company was the pioneer of cryogenically preserved semen technology and nowadays is the leading exporter of it to all parts of the world. Adding rye to pigs ration is the real way to save money 31 .05.2012 11:53:16 є 2Т2012 (08) Management and economics Continuous decrease of margin makes pig producers all over the world study new ways to reduce the cost of production. It is quite natural that reserves are looked for in feeds, which are the main expenditure item. But while new protein and energy sources are being invented, we forget about rye which is well-known and efficient way to save money.
