In 1939, the Kiev Design and Installation Enterprise affiliated to the local construction trust “YuzhEnergoStroy”, Kharkov, and in 1940 it was renamed the Kiev TeploEnergoMontazh enterprise. During the period from 1926 to 1940 there were installed and put into operation the equipment at power facilities of Ukraine, Belarus and Russian Federation, with total capacity of 187 MW. In July 1941, the enterprise was evacuated to the city of Chelyabinsk, renamed ChelyabEnergoMontazh and transferred into the UralEnergoStroy Trust. Altogether during the period 1941-1943, in the Ural region there were commissioned 365 MW of generating capacities at power plants in the cities of Chelyabinsk, Magnitogorsk, Karaganda, Orsk, Ufa, Orenburg, Kopeysk, Troitsk. In December 1943, the enterprise returned to Kiev and in April 1944, on its base, a State Union Construction & Installation Trust “KievPromEnergoMontazh” was formed, which in April 1958 was renamed as the State Union Construction & Installation Trust “YuzhTeploEnergoMontazh”. In March 1991, the State Union Construction & Installation Trust “YuzhTeploEnergoMontazh” was reorganized through corporatisation into “PivdenTeploEnergoMontazh” joint stock company ( Yuzhteploeneromontazh is a Russian spelling of the company name, under which it was known during the Soviet time and that originated the company abbreviated name "UTEM”, generally accepted and used up to the present date). In March 2009, the form of company was changed into the UTEM public joint-stock company. The history of the company is inseparably linked with the history of energy development of Ukraine. Over the past years we have come a long way of development - from the installation of boilers, turbines and process equipment of small-power industrial facilities to the commissioning of thermal power plants’ equipment, with 800 MW turbine generators and boilers with generating capacity of 2650 tons of steam per hour. The company has mastered the installation and commissioning of nuclear power plant equipment with a capacity of 440 and 1000 MW, design, construction and commissioning of industrial and combined heat & power plants, tri- and quadro-generation power stations. During the years of activity, the company has put into production over 37 million kilowatt of generating capacities, including about 32 million kW in Ukraine, that accounts for 57 percent of country’s installed electrical power capacities. The company installed equipment in power plants of the republics of Moldova, Belarus, Armenia, the Russian Federation and others. Equipment and power plants constructed and put into operation in Ukraine: Dobrotvir TPP- 700 MW; Burshtyn TPP - 2,400 MW; Ladyzhyn TPP - 1,800 MW; Pridneprovska TPP - 1765 MW; Kryvy Rih TPP-3000 MW; Tripolye TPP- 1800 MW; Zaporizhzhya TPP - 3,600 MW; Darnitsa TPP – 250 MW; Kiev CHPP-5 - 700 MW; Kiev CHPP-6 - 600 MW; and abroad: Moldavian TPS (Moldova) - 2400 MW; Berezovskaya TPS (Belarus)-900 MW. The company installed equipment at heat and power stations in Odessa, Chernihiv, Kalush, Polotsk and Minsk (Belarus), Argayash (the RF), Chisinau and Balti (Moldova), Yerevan and Kirovokan (Armenia), constructed the heat and power installations of many industrial facilities of Ukraine and Russia. Equipment and nuclear power plants constructed and put into operation: Chernobyl NPP-4000 MW; Zaporizhzhya NPP - 6000 MW; Rivne NPP - 2880 MW; Armenian NPP - 440 MW. In 1972, for achieving the highest performance and to commemorate the fiftieth anniversary of the USSR, the personnel of YuzhTeploEnergoMontazh State Union Construction & Installation Trust has been awarded the Anniversary Badge of Honour. In 1976, for significant advances in the development of energy sector of the Soviet Union the personnel of YuzhTeploEnergoMontazh State Union Construction & Installation Trust has been awarded the Order of Red Banner of Labour. For excellence in the work 370 employees of the company have been awarded orders and medals, three of them, conferred the title "Hero of Socialist Labour, 327 employees were honoured with badges of "High Achiever of Power and Electrification of the USSR" of the USSR ME&E and "Excellent Power Engineering Specialist” of the Ministry of Fuel and Energy of Ukraine. In 1986-1987, more than 3100 of company’s employees took part in the cleanup of the Chernobyl NPP disaster aftermath. On average, about 500 company employees were monthly engaged in activities to remedy the aftermath of Chernobyl disaster, they worked out 118 995 man-hours. For displayed courage in carrying out cleanup of the ChNPP disaster aftermath the state decorations were conferred on: Orders and medals - 83 employees, Commendations of the Government Commission of the Council of Ministers of the USSR -81 employees, Certificates of Merit and Gratitude of the ministries of the USSR and Ukraine - 83 employees. Company’s personnel participated in the installation of equipment abroad: Greece (Keratsini, Cardia, Amindion, Agios Dimitrios CHPPs), Bulgaria (Maritsa-East TPP, Kozloduy NPP), the Czech Republic (Temelin NPP), Slovakia (Bohunice, Mochovce NPPs), Hungary (Paks NPP), Mongolia, Cuba (Juragua NPP), Germany (Greifswald NPP, Boxberg TPP), Iran (Ahwaz (Ramin), Isfahan TPPs, Bushehr NPP), Romania, India, Iraq (Basrah, Najibiyah TPP), etc. Today, UTEM public joint-stock company is one of the leading construction companies of Ukraine, specialized in the power and industrial construction, the leader of branch in the fields of Engineering, Project Management and Commissioning of facilities. During the years of Ukrainian independence, the company participated in the construction and commissioning of: Zaporizhzhya NPP - 1000 MW; Rivne NPP - 1000 MW; Berezovskaya TPP - 165 MW; Starobeshevo TPP - 225 MW.
