The Carpathian Mountains are the longest mountain range in Ukraine and the second-longest mountain system of Europe. On the territory of Ukraine Carpathian Mountains extend for more than 270 km. The highest mount in the range is Hoverla, which is 2061 meters high. CLIMATE Most of Ukraine’s territory has temperate continental climate. On the average the temperatures in Ukraine are: from -8 C to + 2 C in winter (from 17,6 F to 35.6 F); from +17 C to + 25 C in summer (from 62.6 F to 77 F). In the southern part of Ukraine, in Crimea, a more Mediterranean climate prevails. Crimean summer temperature is from +21 up to +23°C on the average. First-class cars ("SV" or sleeper) are considered to be the best. Comparing with the compartments in other classes in a compartment of SV there are much more facilities. SV compartments are for two persons. Second-class cars (koope) provide similar accommodation, but with compartments for four persons. Third-class cars (platz-cart) are often dirty, smelly and noisy.
