The ever-growing popularity of the smartphone and the rise of the tablet PC has necessitated the development of mobile versions for a huge range of software. For some time, Photoshop has been favoured amongst those with an interest in image editing, and so it was only a matter of time before there was 'an app for that' too.

Most smartphones now have fairly sophisticated photography features, as well as internet browsing facilities from providers such as O2 Broadband. Therefore this can actually make the process of taking, editing and sharing photos much quicker. Photoshop currently mobile applications for both Android and iOS - Photoshop Express - which both include a number of use and familiar Photoshop features.

As you might expect, the focus is largely on photo editing. Having Photoshop Express on your phone allows you to crop, straight, and adjust pictures which you have taken within a matter of seconds. You are also able to use Photoshop filters and effects to further enhance such shots, much as you would do when using PC software.

However, one of the main advantages of using the mobile versions of such software is the ability to share your edited images whilst on the go. Both the Android and iOS apps make the most of smartphone touch screen capabilities, allowing you to post photos to a variety of social networking sites quickly and easily. You can also email your finished pictures directly to specific individuals.

However, the advantage of using this app on an iOS device can be seen within the shooting itself. Photoshop Express for iOS has an addition Adobe Camera Pack feature, which allows you to take photos from within the app itself. Because the iOS 4.2 allows for integrated multi-tasking, you can switch between applications without losing your current edit. There are also features such as Auto-Timer and Auto-Review, which can help you achieve the shot that you're after
