President proposes 2014 be declared year of Shevchenko
Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych has proposed that the year 2014, when the 200th birthday of Ukrainian poet Taras Shevchenko will be marked, be declared the year of Shevchenko. He announced this during a ceremony to award Shevchenko prizes in Kaniv, Cherkasy region, on Friday.
"I have submitted a proposal and I will insist that we celebrate this holiday for a year and dedicate the entire year to Taras Hryhorovych Shevchenko," Yanukovych said.
