Economics Research Competition, Fall 2011 The Fall 2011 round of the economics research competition resulted in 89 new research proposals, involving 148 participants from 12 CIS countries and 38 cities. The deadline was October 12, 2011. Who are we? The Economics Education and Research Consortium was created in 1995 to strengthen economics education and research capabilities in the CIS. Managed by a Kiev-based secretariat, EERC’s Research Network supports original policy-relevant studies, organizes training seminars and research workshops, links academics and policymakers, and invests in the virtual research infrastructure – access to scholarly literature, data and peers. Since 2000, EERC serves as the regional partner of the Global Development Network (GDN) in the CIS. What is our mission? EERC's mission is to support the renewal of the economics profession in the CIS, to foster a culture of peer review and open scientific exchange, to encourage individual economists to work at the frontiers of their discipline and subject research to international standards of excellence, and, last but not least, engage academic economists in the public policy debate process, at the national and local levels. While trying to foster high-quality research in economics, we emphasize the incubation of innovative research ideas, and of young scholars, and the formation of a CIS-wide professional network of economists. What do we do? EERC delivers funding for original policy-relevant research through a cycle of semi-annual grant competitions and ad hoc research tenders on specific topics. To foster professional exchange and to engage policymakers and the general public in the discussion of the most important research findings we publish research through EERC's working papers series (in English and Russian).
