Membership in Professional Bodies:
At the end of 2008 Jurvneshservice joined the UN Global Compact Network in Ukraine.
The Global Compact was initiated by United Nation Secretary-General Kofi Annan on 31 January 1999 in hi speech at the World Economic Forum and was officially launced at UN Headquarters in New York on 26 July 2000. Today, over 6,500 companies from all regions of the world, including international labour and civil society organisations, are engaged in the Global Compact, working to advance ten universal principles in the areas of human rights, labour, the environment and anti-corruption.
Through the power of collective action, the Global Compact seeks to promote responsible corporate citizenship so that business can be part of the solution to the challenges of globalization.
The Global Compact is a purely voluntary initiative with two objectives:
- Mainstream the ten principles in business activities around the world.
- Catalyse actions in support of UN goals.
In response to growing interest in corporate social responsibility in Ukraine, the United Nations in Ukraine launched the Global Compact in Ukraine. The initiative took off on 25th April 2006 in Kyiv with the support of leading local and multinational companies as well as senior representatives of Government.
The signatories of the GC commit themesleves to advocate the philosophy of the initiative and make all efforts to implement the following core values in the areas of human rights, labour standards, the environment, and anti-corruption:
Human Rights
- Principle 1: Businesses should support and respect the protection of internationally proclaimed human rights; and
- Principle 2: make sure that they are not complicit in human rights abuses.
Labour Standards
- Principle 3: Businesses should uphold the freedom of association and the effective recognition of the right to collective bargaining;
- Principle 4: the elimination of all forms of forced and compulsory labour;
- Principle 5: the effective abolition of child labour; and
- Principle 6: the elimination of discrimination in respect of employment and occupation.
Environment
- Principle 7: Businesses should support a precautionary approach to environmental challenges;
- Principle 8: undertake initiatives to promote greater environmental responsibility; and
- Principle 9: encourage the development and diffusion of environmentally friendly technologies
Anti-Corruption
- Principle 10: Businesses should work against corruption in all its forms, including extortion and bribery.
