About Ukraine

Having acquired its independence in 1991, Ukraine inherited developed science, advanced education system and powerful hi-tech industry. Though the adaptation period of the country to new social and political conditions turned out to be a long one, these three components of innovative activity have mostly been preserved. In particular, Ukraine has more than 100 thousand industrial enterprises, about 300 institutes and universities, several hundreds of active scientific institutions. They are forming new kinds of ties satisfying the demands of market economy.

That is why Ukraine is still among world leaders, for example, in preparing certified programmers, metal welding, cardiovascular surgery, space and aviation equipment and in some other fields.

According to total volumes of certain natural resources, Ukraine occupies one of the leading positions in the world (e.g., coal, metal and uranium ores, mineral resources etc.).

Though Ukraine’s export is still mostly oriented at metallurgy products (up to 35%), every year the share of machine-building, information technologies and high precision equipment construction is growing. Principal export partners of Ukraine include Russia, the EU, Turkey and other countries.
