About the agency

Credit-Rating is the first national rating agency in Belarus (established in Minsk in March 2009), which major participant is Ukraine-domiciled Credit-Rating agency. The principal activity of Belarus-based Credit-Rating’s office is independent assessment of obligors with assigning credit ratings by the National rating scale of Republic of Belarus.

Services furnished by the agency include the following:

  • assignment of credit ratings to companies, banks, insurance companies, municipalities by the National rating scale of Republic of Belarus, which is developed for evaluation of credit risks within the Belarusian market; assignment of credit ratings to debt instruments (bond issues, loans);
  • assignment of ratings of corporate governance;
  • assignment of bank deposit ratings.

A credit rating by the National rating scale of Republic of Belarus is necessary to be used in the domestic market by different obligors. A primary advantage of an international credit rating - its comparability between the countries – becomes disadvantage in emerging markets. This is prompted by the fact that the rating assigned to an obligor or its debt instrument cannot be higher than the sovereign rating of the obligor’s domicile.

Today the sovereign ratings assigned to Republic of Belarus remain low (speculative grade), with high international credit ratings being inaccessible for Belarusian obligors. This results in the fact that investors operating in the national market cannot employ international credit ratings efficiently. This may only be possible by using ratings of the National rating scale, which are assigned in its full range - from the highest (for the most reliable obligors in the national market) to the lowest (for the weakest obligors).

Credit-Rating is an independent private company, which does not incorporate governmental bodies, financial institutions and investment companies. In order to secure impartiality of its assessments Credit-Rating is not a participant of the financial market and is not a lender to the entities rated.
