Germany: Lena in top spot, at least on Web 2.0

May 19, 2011 - GfK Panel Services analyzes internet use in Germany during the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest Nuremberg, May 19, 2011 – With Germany abuzz with Eurovision fever, almost 14 million watched the final of the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) on TV. During the Eurovision weekend, anyone missing the competition could catch up on what was happening on the social media pages. As an analysis of the GfK Media Efficiency Panel showed, YouTube led the search for information on Lena and her competitors, while Wikipedia was more frequently used than the Facebook pages of the ESC and the artists taking part. more >>

Germans once again most worried – inflation is a growing concern among Europeans

May 19, 2011 - The GfK "Challenges of Europe” survey carried out annually on behalf of the GfK Verein, which asks citizens about their concerns, has shown that Germany remains the most worried nation in Europe. Unemployment is still the main area of concern for German, although a downward trend is apparent. In contrast, compared to the prior year, the issue of inflation is moving further into the spotlight. Europeans, in general, are also particularly concerned about unemployment, and price and purchasing power development, closely followed by worries about political and economic stability, criminality and the health service. more >>

Results of GfK TEMAX® Ukraine for the first quarter of 2011: Promising start to the year

May 18, 2011 - For the fifth time in a row the technical consumer goods market performed extremely well in the first quarter of the year, achieving substantial growth of almost one third compared with the same period year ago. Sales increased in all market segments, with every sector exhibiting growth in excess of 20%. The consumer electronics sector was the clear leader of the market this quarter. Consumer confidence in Ukraine, April 2011: Pause in price growth effected improvement of consumer confidence

May 18, 2011 - In April 2011, the consumer mood among Ukrainians improved. Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) increased by 6 p.p. to 67.8. CCI growth in April was primarily observed due to better assessments of the current financial situation. This is proved by the results of the consumer confidence survey in Ukraine, conducted by GfK Ukraine on a monthly basis. more >>

USA: Death of Osama bin Laden Helps President Obama Regain Popularity

May 12, 2011 - The image of President Barack Obama has rebounded significantly with news of the U.S. killing of Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. According to latest AP-GfK poll, 60% of Americans now approve the way Obama is handling his job as president, up from only 53% in March. This is the highest rating since May 2009, shortly after his inauguration. Moreover, an overwhelming majority of Americans state that the killing of bin Laden was justified (87%). Still, not even one in five believes it has decreased the thread of terrorism against the United States. more >>

Mobile Payments: Trust and familiarity are crucial in driving adoption

May 12, 2011 - Trust and familiarity are the key drivers in consumer preference for mobile payment services, according to a new study. The survey by GfK NOP, a global market research agency, covered nine countries (US, UK, France, Italy, Germany, Spain, South Korea, Brazil and China) and included 8,603 online interviews, with each country’s sample designed to represent their online population. more >>
