Kyiv is the capital of Ukraine and one of the biggest cities in Europe. Its financial part consists of the National Bank of Ukraine, as well as investment companies and funds, representative offices of foreign financial institutions, exchange markets, and more than 220 commercial banks. In Kyiv, more than 2,000 objects belong to historical, cultural, and architectural monuments.

Although the year 482 A.D. is considered to be the year of foundation, people inhabit this region for many thousands years. A little more that 100 years ago there were discovered several ancient settlements that belong to the most ancient developed civilization now know as Trypillian culture.
According to the ancient legend, Kiev was founded by the three brothers Kyi, Schek and Khoryv and their sister Lybid, and it was named after the eldest brother Kyi. Kyiv means the city of Kyi (Kyiv is a Ukrainian spelling and Kiev is Russian, more known worldwide since Soviet times).

The transportation in Kiev includes metro, trolleys, tram and buses. The Metro system is the fastest and most convenient. The outer transport connection includes railways and airways. The Kiev Passenger Railway Station is the only long distance passenger terminal. The most important airport is the Boryspil Airport.
Shopping:
The city of Kiev has large shopping and recreation centers and top brand shops. There are also boutiques and supermarkets in the city. The supermarkets were built in the late 1990’s and some of the famous supermarkets are Billa, MegaMarket and Silpo. Kiev is the shopping paradise of Europe and contains a large number of shopping paradises. There is a large number of gift and wine shops in Kiev and the famous gift shops are located in Shevchenka Boulevard, Kreschatik Street and many other places.

Kiev is known as the green city and has two famous botanical gardens and varieties of parks like the Hidropark, consisting of swimming beaches and amusement places.
Favorite pastime in Kiev is fishing, boating and water sports.
During the summer months, the centre of Kiev becomes an outdoor party place with varieties of restaurants and clubs.
Besarabsky Market is the famous market place of Kiev and is located at the centre of the city. Variety of farming products is available there.
The largest and the best known street in Kiev is Khreschatyk.
