In 2010, the Bank will focus on the following aspects of its sponsorship and charity activity:
- Support for educational and development projects for young people; support for students’ initiatives, primarily in finance sector.
- Assistance to children’s cancer clinics and wards in coordination with charity foundations and associations.
In this area, VAB Bank presently partners with the International Charity Foundation Dar Nadiy the International Charity Foundation Dar Nadiyi.
The following initiatives have been implemented within the framework of the declared strategy:
September 2010
Little patients of cancer clinics in Nikolaev, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kharkiv,
Chernivtsi and Donetsk will enjoy their art therapy classes for much longer
now, thanks to VAB Bank management and employees. Bank representatives
presented the gifts - paints, paper, colour pencils, modelling clay,
brushes, and painting models - and arranged small celebrations for the kids
in the run up to the 1st September.

A celebration for cancer affected children was organized by VAB Bank jointly with charity fund volunteers with the support of the administration of Kiev’s Nemo dolphinarium: a free visit to the dolphinarium was granted to nearly 50 little patients undergoing care at several clinics and rehabilitation centres.

VAB Bank supported the effort of outfitting the manipulation wards of Kiev Oblast Clinic’s cancer department by providing the required LCD monitors. The new equipment will facilitate work of medical personnel for the benefit of little patients. Also, VAB Bank helped arrange fast delivery of consumables from Kryvy Rih to Rivne at the request of volunteers for the Gift of Hope charity foundation.

VAB Bank executives and employees actively joined the raising of funds required for pharmaceuticals, playroom equipment and furniture for childhood oncohematology unit at Kiev Oblast Cancer Dispensary. The required funds were collected through internet sale of paintings and crafts by little patients to Bank employees.

Employees of VAB Bank joined charity marathon, dated to the International Childhood Cancer Day, that ran between 25 January and 15 February 2010 in Chernivtsi, Ukraine. Little patients of Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast Clinic’s renal hematology unit had a real holiday on January 23rd. No matter Father Christmas came a bit late – he did not forget presents and lots of festive joy for the kids.

Young patients of Ulybka Rehabilitation Centre for children suffering from cancer will long remember their Christmas holidays. The magic bus took the little ones, their parents and volunteers helping at the Centre to Kiev Academy Youth Theatre. In addition to the fairy performance of The King Thrushbeard’s Odd Love all children were offered Christmas gifts: activity kits for their creative classes.

A surprise was awaiting little cancer patients and physicians in Kharkiv, Odessa, Nikolaev and Dnipropetrovsk on the New Year's eve: VAB Bank administration and emoloyees jointly with charity foundation representatives donated 4 infusion pumps to cancer clinics in these cities. This equipment is imperative for cancer treatment as it allows injecting required medicines at different rates and in different successions.

In early October, volunteers for the “Your Are An Angel” Oblast Children’s Charity Foundation ran a training session for Ivano-Frankivsk and organised a joint art therapy lesson for little patients of Ivanj-Frankivsk regional clinic’s cancer ward.

Staff of VAB Bank Lviv branch are now also involved in art therapy lessons. During one of them volunteers and little patients created lovely thread-and-paper caterpillar figures. Employees in Ivano-Frankivsk region are shortly to join the VAB Bank initiative, already underway in Kiev and Lviv.

VAB Bank funded and dispatched to the regions health aids so needed by children: diapers, nappies, towels, wipes etc. The parcels have already been received by representatives of charity foundations at Simferopol, Dnepropetrovsk and Donetsk and forwarded to oncohematology wards. A surprise awaited patients and medical staff of the Kiev Oblast Cancer Dispensary children’s oncohematology unit on the 15th anniversary of its establishment: a microscope delivered in exchange for a cash certificate presented to the clinic by VAB Bank chairman Petr Baron on the eve of the International Day of Cancer Affected Children. This state-of-the-art piece of medical equipment will allow for higher quality routine tests, as well as for implementation of new diagnostic methods.

Management and employees of VAB are extending help to little patients of oncohematology units in the regions. At the initiative of Bank staff several units received furniture for their wards and playrooms. Such donations were made in Zaporizhzhya, Lviv, Ivan-Frankivsk and Mykolaiv. Locally, VAB was assisted by representatives of charity foundations and volunteers.

On the eve of the International Day of Cancer Affected Children, VAB employees initiated collection of funds needed to buy a microscope for the Kiev Oblast Cancer Dispensary children’s oncohematology unit. VAB Bank chairman Petr Baron presented clinic representatives a cash certificate for the microscope in the Young Theatre on 13 February 2009. Little patients returned their gratitude together with bright drawings created at art therapy lessons.

In the forerunning of St. Nicholas’ Day little patients of the Kiev Oblast Cancer Dispensary children’s oncohematology unit were greeted by VAB staff. Bank employees presented children things necessary for their art therapy lessons, as well as medicines and household products.
