Research areas:
- selection activities to create new silkworm races and hybrids;
– conservation of the silkworm genetic resource collection which currently comprises 122 races of the silkworm of various geographical origins;
– the systematization of the silkworm collection races based on using DNA technologies has been commenced;
– monitoring of the epizootic situation as to principal infectious and invasive diseases in the silkworm and the development of modern methods of their diagnostics;
– development and implementation of a combined system of prophylaxis of and measures to control mono- and associated infections and the microsporidia invasion in eggs production and during rearing the silkworm
(Bombyx mori) and the oaken silkworm;

– international cooperation in silk;
– development of modern express methods for monitoring culture quality of the silkworm at all the stages of its development;
– maintaining of the collection of genetic resources of silkworm and mulberry genofond of the NSC “IECVM”;
– conducting of treatment-and-prevention measures at egg producing factories and during rearing the silkworm at the sericulture farms of Ukraine;
– development of methodological and practical recommendations concerning conducting of the State control of eggs and investigation of the silkworm pathological material with the purpose of disease diagnostics.
MULBERRY SELECTION, TECHNOLOGY AND GENE POOL CONSERVATION LABORATORY
Research areas:
– selection for new high-yield fruit, feed and decorative mulberry varieties;
– keeping a maintenance of the mulberry gene pool of Ukraine;
– evaluating seed and graft material quality using express methods;

– study of the genetic mechanisms of organism response to electromagnetic radiation;
– examination of the fodder and fruit plantations of mulberry and their phytosanitary estimation;
– development of the system of formation, growing and reproduction of mulberry and fruit cultures.
EXPERIMENTAL & PRODUCTION LABORATORY
Research areas:
– creation of machines and machinery for an all-round mechanization and automation of production processes in sericulture;
– breeding of laboratory animals;
– consultations for physical and juridical persons on the problems of silkworm breeding.
