Vitamin E has failed to prevent heart attacks because dosages taken were far too low, according to a new study from Vanderbilt University, but the solution is not as simple as taking larger amounts of the vitamin. According to the study, published in Free Radical Biology and Medicine, the extremely high dosages of vitamin E required to produce significant benefits may not be safe. However, MeridiumXN™, a novel dietary supplement from BioNovix, offers a solution to this dilemma.

Vanderbilt researchers identified the vitamin E problem by testing its ability to reduce oxidative stress, a byproduct of normal metabolism whereby damaging free radicals are generated in excess, leading to disease. They found negligible antioxidant effects at lower, safe doses of vitamin E. In contrast, other research has shown that MeridiumXN™, a proprietary extract of hops blossoms, effectively reduces oxidative stress safely. The efficacy of MeridiumXN™ was measured with the same type of antioxidant test used in the recent vitamin E study.

The active ingredient in MeridiumXN™ is xanthohumol, a substance in hops whose benefits have been extensively studied. However, in its natural state, xanthohumol is difficult to absorb. MeridiumXN™ is the first product to make xanthohumol bioavailable, using a proprietary delivery technology which enables molecules of the substance to cross membranes in the digestive tract. This unique delivery system has been awarded multiple US patents.

MeridiumXN™ is a proprietary product from BioNovix™. The company has also developed the Wellness Index Test™, the first antioxidant test using technology developed at Vanderbilt University that is available to consumers. It gives an objective, reliable indication of oxidative stress levels.

The Wellness Index Test™ measures isoprostanes, a substance our bodies make in greater amounts as oxidative stress increases. The test makes it possible for anyone to see if levels of oxidative stress are healthy or too high, and to determine if antioxidant supplements are reducing oxidation.

Founded in 2006, BioNovix™ is a consumer health products company that develops scientifically sound products to advance health and wellness. BioNovix™ sells MeridiumXN™ and the Wellness Index Test™ direct to consumers through a network marketing channel of distribution.
