Ukraine and Kazakhstan are interested of use of the Kazakh uranium concentrate for production of the nuclear fuel for Ukrainian nuclear power plants, the Enerhoatom national nuclear power company.
«The sides are mainly interested in the prospect of delivery of the Kazakh uranium concentrate to satisfy demands of the Ukrainian nuclear power plants,» this is disclosed in the results of the meeting of Enerhoatom and the Kazakhatomprom company, Kazakhstan, held on November 14-15.
The sides also confirmed their interest in the cooperation in the frames of the International center for uranium enrichment in Angarsk, Russia.
Besides, Enerhoatom and Kazakhatomprom noted the need to boost the cooperation in the frames of the Joint Ukrainian-Kazakh-Russian Nuclear Fuel Enterprise created in Kyiv in 2001.
The Kazakhatomprom company is the Kazakh national operator on import-export of uranium and other materials of the dual purpose.
The company is engaged in extraction of the uranium ore, production of nuclear-fuel cycle, uranium, nuclear fuel and rare metals exports.
As Ukrainian News earlier reported, Ukraine and Kazakhstan intend to step up their cooperation in the energy industry.
On June 6, Enerhoatom signed the contract with Zhovti Vody-based Skhidnyi ore mining and enrichment plant state-run enterprise, Dnipropetrovsk region, on purchase of the produced uranium concentrate for the period of 2008-2018.
Enerhoatom runs four nuclear power plants producing about 50% of the total Ukrainian electricity in Ukraine.
