The national currency of Ukraine is the hryvnia (abbreviated as UAH). One hryvnia is made up of 100 kopecks. The denominations are 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 and 200. Kopecks come in 1, 2, 5, 10, 25, and 50. There is also a 1-hryvnia gold coin.
Banknotes of all denominations are made of a special white paper that does not give off fluorescence when placed under ultraviolet rays. The watermark on 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 banknotes issued in 1992 is the image of a trident reflected in light lines.
The watermark on banknotes valued at 1 hryvnia (1994, 1995), 2 (1995), 5 (1994, 1997), 10 (1994), 20 (1995), 5-, 100 and 200 have a portrait of different historic figures and tones.
Face side
The face side of banknotes has portraits of famous activists in the history and literature of Ukraine and the inscriptions Ukraine and the National Bank of Ukraine. The value of the banknote is given in figures and written out. The design is supplemented by ornaments and rosettes. The portraits, inscriptions and separate decorative elements of the banknotes were done through relief printing.
Reverse side
On the reverse side of the notes are images of historic, architectural monuments of Ukraine with the inscription National Bank of Ukraine above them. The nominal value of each banknote is reflected in text and in figures in all four corners of the note. At the bottom of each note is the year the sample was confirmed. The design of the banknotes is supplemented by rosettes, bands and ornaments in multi-color print.
