Awful days

January 28th, 2006 by Joaquín Cuenca Abela

Some days you feel it would had been better to not quit the bed.
And some days you just can’t quit your bed.

Yesterday I passed all the day with a strong pain in the back, and I couldn’t even go to work. I passed the morning just checking that all the doctors near me where full, and the rest of the day trying to do something useful with my laptop… until yesterday evening, when the screen of the laptop decided enough was enough, and stopped working since then.

Today I’m feeling somewhat better, but it still hurts. I’m using the Mac now. I passed the latest hours installing emacs, getting a decent developer environment and doing some work on the javascript engine.

It turns out I was not just lacking concat and reverse on Arrays. It seems that I can’t even read my own TODO items. I just had toString, join, pop and push, and thus I was lacking concat, reverse, shift, slice, sort, splice and unshift.

I have implemented now all of them, and they have all of them worked at the first try, except for splice (I got wrong some indexes on some for loops on splice). O’Caml is truly an outstanding language.

On the Panoramio front, yesterday I coded a first cut at a home page somewhat usable for people without Javascript activated. I still have a lot of work to do on this front.

    I know how you feeeling…
Sometimes when I go to the bed I count portlets, CQ issues and when I have bad dreams they are with PNA (Portlet Not Avaliable)…

I never hear (or read) before someone from my area talking like this for his work, I mean, for the other people we are just a bunch of nerds, but what I see around me (on my work) it´s a bunch of guys that love to see the things work… Doesn´t matter where I work, the feeling is the same, passion for code!

But I think that is more, it´s a passion to see how your work change the things around you, and how great is when we knew that kind of little piece of code, words, can change the world.

What I try to tell you my friend (if I can call you like this), is that our strong is inside our mind not on our body, because you just know when someone is strong when the body stop to work some functions and his mind still change our way of thinking.

When i´m tired, I just remember Stephen Hawking and i´m keeping going.

I have to agree with the “Anonymous” guys, from here, I see that you done good.

Well, we need vacations sometimes, but even on vacations I say “well, I will take a rest when I´m die, a very big rest! For now I have to see the other side of this valley…” And still walking through…

    Best Wishes,
    Cleber
