New information and analytical weekly "UNIAN–Eurointegration"
"We must deliver the meaning of European integration to every Ukrainian citizen, we must explain what advantages every citizen will get, what programs can be implemented in Ukraine, what risks are there to consider in respect of European integration issues"
On April 7, in the conference hall of the UNIAN news agency (4 Khreshchatyk Street) there was held a press conference dedicated to the launch of a new information and analytical weekly "UNIAN–Eurointegration". It was carried out with the financial and expert support of the International Renaissance Foundation (IRF).
In the opinion of the IRF Executive Director Mr. Yevhen BYSTRYTSKY, the presented "UNIAN–Eurointegration" weekly is the first information thesaurus, a full and integral picture made up of mosaic bits of information related to a European integration process, the process Ukraine is joining quite actively.
The IRF initiated the European Integration Program, which only this year received the funding of about USD 1 million.
The political scientist Mr. Oleksandr DERGACHOV stressed that experts and journalists must help the average Ukrainian citizen get more information about European integration processes, and now it is a good time to speak more seriously about the reasons why Ukraine is joining Europe.
IRF European Program Manager Ms. Iryna SOLONENKO said that one of the highest priorities now is to achieve a better awareness of Ukrainian citizens of European integration processes. First, the discussion of European integration issues should be transferred from a high-policy level into our daily lives, where Ukraine must achieve certain criteria, standards and accept values widespread across the European Union. Second, it is necessary to emphasize the important role that a civil society plays in the European integration process.
According to the editor of the "UNIAN–Eurointegration" weekly Ms. Albina TRUBENKOVA, it is a shame when people in Ukraine do not understand what is happening in the European Union, when they are not aware of the hot debates raging around Ukraine in the European Parliament, and that is why this situation needs to be changed, citizens should get more information about the processes currently underway in the European Union and about the reaction of EU politicians and officials towards certain events in Ukraine.
The "UNIAN–Eurointegration" weekly will appear every Thursday and will be available on-line at the UNIAN website: www.unian.net. The 30-page weekly will provide information and analyses of dynamics of the processes determining relations between Ukraine and the European Union structures.
