Anna Derevyanko

Interview with Anna Derevyanko, Executive Director of the European Business Association

Go2Kiev: What do you like best about your job?
Anna Derevyanko: I like its diversity. I meet many different people from various countries and bringing together all these different cultures is very exciting.

G2K: How long have you been working for EBA?
AD: Right from the start 8 years ago. I was the second person who was hired. Back then there were only 2 people working. Now we have 25 people employed in 6 branches in Ukraine and about 700 members.

G2K: Is there a difference in working with Ukrainians and foreigners?
AD: No, I could not say that, the differences are more individual. Each member has different needs and we learn something new with every company.

G2K: What does a typical day at work look like for you?
AD: I usually have a lot of meetings in person but also lots of communications on the phone. I have to communicate with our members, governmental authorities and the team as well. Together with the team we elaborate new directions bringing us closer to the aim. Our ultimate goal is full establishment of the European business standards in Ukraine.
At the moment we are working on reducing the barriers for investors, for example, and promoting Ukraine as a successful business destination.

G2K:Is it an advantage to be a woman in your job?
AD: It does not really matter. Before I got the position there were 2 men and they were successful. I think beeing a woman is definitely not a disadvantage as long as you have all the other required skills for this job.

G2K: How do you view the role of women in business in Ukraine?
AD: I see that Ukrainian women are very self-motivated and goal-oriented. Today there are a lot of highly educated, intelligent and firm of purpose women engaged in different spheres of business, economics and politics as well in our country. In our team we also have only 3 men colleagues. It was not a conscious choice. It somehow worked out that way.

G2K: What do you do when you are not working?
AD: The little freetime I have, I try to spend with my husband and my son. That gives me the strength to deal with my job.

G2K: What are your hopes for the future?
AD: I look forward to be able to fully put into action our EBA vision. And I do hope that Ukrainian nation will be successful and full of health, optimism and positive values.

G2K: Thank you very much for this interview Anna!
