(The region declared its independence in 1990, and armed conflict took place in 1992. International efforts to achieve a negotiated resolution to the conflict have so far not been successful.) >>> What EUBAM does The Mission’s staff is over 200, including around 120 customs and border experts from EU member states, assisted by Moldovan and Ukrainian nationals. The Mission is entirely funded by the European Union, initially from the Rapid Reaction Mechanism, then through the European Commission’s TACIS programme, and currently from its European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). A significant contribution is made by more than 20 individual EU Member States, which second their experts directly to the Mission to work at the border. UNDP is the Mission’s implementing partner, providing administrative and logistical back-up. >>> News 10th EUBAM Advisory Board Meeting 27.06. The EU, Moldovan and Ukrainian officials satisfied with cooperation on the Moldovan-Ukrainian border. 10th Advisory Board Meeting of the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) praised the progress of the Mission and partner services towards attaining European standards in border management and highlighted remaining challenges in fighting smuggling activities and corruption. >>> Workshop on fighting cross-border organised crime 23.06. High level representatives of border and law enforcement agencies of Moldova are taking part in a two-day workshop on fighting cross-border organised crime in Chisinau on 23-24 June. The workshop is prepared by the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM). >>> EU diplomats explore the work of EUBAM 20.06. On 19 June ambassadors representing several EU Member States to Moldova visited the European Union Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM) in Odessa.
